Pencil Case Makeover

Hello VLV STAMP lovers! Fiona here with you today to share a little pictorial tutorial on how I gave my pencil case a makeover using the gorgeous new stamps by the very talented  Corrie Herriman and Tera Callihan.

I bought this little gem at K-Mart. It is made from canvas that has been dipped in a matt rubber covering on the bottom. It is very cool and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to give it a makeover!

I began by giving it a light coat of gesso and once that was dry I started to collage some old book pages, music sheets, stamps and other ephemera onto the gesso with some matt gel medium. While I waited for the first layer of gel medium to dry, I stamped out some of the girls new designs onto some old book paper and coloured them using some water soluble pastels. You could use anything you liked to give them some colour. Then I cut out and layered the stamped images on top of the layer of ephemera and gave it another coat of matt gel medium.

Next I added some white contrast with ultra white gesso. I scraped it over with a palette knife, then with my finger I added just a touch of black contrast using some black acrylic paint then finally I added my colour element. I only choose three colours to add because there was already a lot of colour going on with the stamped images.

Speaking of stamped images ..... I wanted a feature piece so I chose the Whimsical Lettered Man and stamped him in a place where there wasn't as much going on with some black Archival ink.

Tip: Place a hard cover book inside the pencil case to press onto when you stamp. It gives you a nice firm surface to work with.

Lastly .... and this is the best bit ... I added some white paint pen marks over the top of the black areas, I scribbled randomly and with my non dominant hand all over the front with a led pencil, I then outlined roughly any areas I wanted to enhance using a black biro (ball point pen) and then finally I added a little bit more black stamping with the little star and heart and some acrylic SPLASH! Ink.

Here is a list of the Viva Las Vegastamps I used:

I think you'll agree it looks much funkier now!!

Thanks for popping in to take a look and I'll see you all again soon xx

Scream Queen

Halloween is almost upon us and I am still creating for this spooky day...
Michele here with a quick card for All Hallows Eve.

I used Fancy Spiderweb Corner, Bride of Frankenstein, Bat Wings and Scream Queen.

I stamped the wings in Heidi Swapp reactive paint and foiled them.

My scream queen is colored with Distress Markers.

The corner cobweb was stamped  in embossing ink and then I used Ultra High Gloss embossing powder to create a resist.

The background is Distress Spray and Ink with water splatters.

Thanks for stopping by today!!

Born to be wild

Hello everyone,

For my DT post for today I have made a tag. I had a bit of a struggle with it though as at one point I thought I would have to throw it away ! In the end I think I quite like it. :o)

This tag was cut from a gelli print. I put so much stuff over the top that you can't see the print anymore ! lol. That was the reason I almost threw it away...
First I stamped the cat on white card stock and coloured her with Copic Markers, then cut her out. Next I added the circles to the tag because I thought the cat didn't stand out enough.
I took it to my sewing machine and added some stitching. So far, so good. I then started stamping and I think I just stamped too much... I used a load of stamps and inks and ended up using some punchinella and white paint to cover some of it up or at least make it less visible. In the end I think I  do like it.

I used the following stamps:

Mail Art Monday Spook-tackular

Hello Everyone!

Tera here again,
Welcome back to another fun Mail Art Monday!

Today, I want to share a super fun and easy envelope just in time for Halloween.

To create this envelope, I started with an A2 envelope.  I started by stamping the Skeletons in the closet stamp.  I next used a ruler to continue the line for the "base board" to create a floor.

Next, I stamped the spider and web in the upper right corner. I used my micron marker in .005 to create the cracks in the "wall".

To color everything I used a variety of zig clean color brush pens. and distress inks to add a bit of shading around the edges.

A Little Art Journal Cover

Hello VLVS peeps!! Fiona here to share with you a little bit of inspiration using the wonderful Viva Las Vegastamps!!

This is a little art journal that I have created from an old book. I keep all my special little notes and cards that people send me in it.

I decorated the cover using some VLVS Stamps. I drew the heart but if you wanted to you could use the Squiggle Heart also. Doodle frame down the spine side and then some stitching stamps around the gesso block in the middle to frame it.

A little title to finish it all off. This one is almost full already. I think I'll have to start a new one!

VLVS STAMPS USED:

The Stitching stamps can be found on

I hope you've liked my little bit of inspiration.
I'll be back again soon xx

Halloween Mail Art Monday

It's mail art Monday!!!

Michele here with some HALLOWEEN mail art.

I created an envelope to go with my inspiration challenge project...

I have a little tutorial to share.  I started with my gelli plate.

This is Dina Wakely paint in Gilt, Cheddar and Elephant.

I stamped the Skeleton in two rows and then put down my envelope cut from white cardstock.

I made sure to tape off a spot for the address.

The Humerus Bone stamp and some doodling frames the address spot.  I also stamped the Striped Spider and Fly.  The Skull is cut out, colored with gray watercolor pencil and adhered.

This is the envelope before put together.

Look at how fun the skeleton ends up using the gelli plate.

I am having so much fun with my gelli plate...I made this one myself with Amazing Mold Rubber.

Such glorious Halloween colors!!

I hope you will be creating some fun Halloween things and that you will share with us in our Facebook group.

Until next time...get inky!!
