Witchy Mail Art Video Tutorial

Hello again! 

Its me Tera here with another fun installment of Mail Art Monday!!!

Here in Ohio the air is getting crisper, leaves are falling and I'm loving my spiced tea and coffees... Fall is such a fun time!

 So today's tutorial is a fun Halloween themed envelope and postcard.

This Is Not A Photo Opportunity.

Today, I have a project to share featuring one of my all time favorite ways to use rubber stamps!  It's well known that I LOVE fabric.  The only thing I love more that fabric, is creating my own printed fabric.

To create the covers for this book, I grabbed some of my favorite unbleached cotton fabric along with my StazOn ink pad and stamped myself a one of a kind pattern with the Flying Saucer Diagram and Field Of Stars rubber stamp images.

To embellish the cover, I stamped a small section of white cotton with the Banksy This Is/Photo Op image, and stitched it on (I thought it was a funny nod to the cliche of a UFO enthusiast's desire to catch one on film!  HA!!). I then layered together several panels of cotton, felt and chipboard and sewed them together to create a soft, quilted book cover.

I love the vintage look of this book!  And the versatility of stamping your own fabric is endless.  How sweet would it be using nursery rhyme images for a baby book?  We're talking Humpty Dumpty, The Cow Jumped Over The Moon, and The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon stuff here.

Mixed Media Notecard

Hi everybody! Today I want to show you how I made this 4" x 6" mixed media notecard. I use these kind of cards in my art journals, planners, layouts or sometimes as a postcard.

Step 1: I started with some patterned papers (these are from DCWV). The stripes on top have a great texture. I adhered them with Gel Medium.

 Step 2: I added a thin layer of gesso on top.

Step 3: I used a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop and modeling paste to create some texture. After the paste was dry it was time for the first layer of color. I used the Marabu Art Sprays "lemon" and "chilli". These are acrylic inks so they are waterproof when they are dry.

Step 4: I used more of the Art Sprays. This time I took "raspberry".

Step 5: I added some more gesso with my fingers. For some more interest in the background I used the lace borders from the "Lace Background" stamp. They are stamped with Memento Luxe "Love Letter".

Step 6: I used Viva Decor Inka Gold "Aquamarine" for the color splatters and the "Number Strip " stamp for more texture.

Step 7: Now it was time to prepare the card toppers. I used the "Wanderlust" and "Whimisical Face with Horns" stamps. The borders are drawn by hand with a black PITT Artist Pen on top of the "Dictionary Page" stamp. To give the borders a little bit of color I sprinkled some "Aquamarine" Inka Gold and some of the "raspberry" color on top of them.

Step 8: The stamped impressions were added to the card with 3d foam pads. Before I did that I used some black gesso on the background for more contrast. For the perfect finish I added some doodling with a white and black uniPOSCA marker.

September Inspiration Tags

Shanna here to share with you some inspiration for this month's challenge.  Check out the challenge here doesn't this inspiration board look fun. 

 

I really wanted to play with some paints and inks I have.

I started with Distress Paints and sprayed the paint with water. I smooshed the tag in the puddle. 

After I heat set it I used a Twinkling H20 (Lucky Apple). 

And made it dripped down the tag. 

I want to play with some black embossing glitter. I used the stamp Poison Apple - 19702 to add the embossing too. 

I ended up making two tags. 

The first tag I added some alpha stickers to make the tag "spooky".

I used India Ink to have running black ink from the top of the tags. 

For the second tag, I loved the witch in this stamp Witch Holding the Broom - 19705. 

I followed the same background technique. 

I added the sentiment In the Pale Moonlight - 19351.

I finished off the tags with some seam binding ribbon and twine.

Hi Hermine here. This time I made a tutorial on how I made a pocket letter using a gelli plate and paint.

step 1 : cut a piece of paper in 9 sections and put some low tack masking tape on the back to keep them together

step 2 : put some acryllic paint on you gelli plate and put the paper on the gelli plate, do this several times with different colours

step 3 : take another colour and put a stencil onj top of the gelli plate, remove and put you paper onto the gelli plate. Then use the stencil itself to put on the paper, so you get a positive and negative print of the stencil.

step 4: stamp with Stazon black stitching lines 19642 on left and richt side and Sawtooth stitching lines 19643 on the bottom and top side

step 5: Before deciding where to put the images onto the pocketletter pieces I stamped them on transparant sheet so I can shuffle and decide to put which one on which place, see photo below.

step 6: put the transparant sheet on top of your background and see what look best, if your happy with it stamp the images onto the background.

step 7: I used Verdamark and black embossing powder to stamp the images, on 2 of the bottom ones I stamped: Whimsical honred boy 19688 and the text she was 19632  and an artist 19636 on each side.

step 8: on 4 of the pocketletters I stamped Whimsical lady on bench 19691 and the text create art every day 19637 on one of them.

step 9: remove the tape, make some white high lights with a sharpie and put then in the pockets

BONUS: if you keep a piece of paper by hand, so you can use the leftover paint from the gelli plate, and stencil you can create a second background and clean you gelli plate, stencil and brayer at the same time. Its looks great to start a new project. I haven't decide yet how to use it, make it into a journal page, cut them in four to make a series of cards or make another pocket letter. Time will tell.
