May Inspiration and love of Vikings!

Hi Glenda here with my take on the gorgeous May inspiration shown below.  I loooveeed the red, black and white as well as the drips in this inspiration piece.
I was inspired by this piece to make an art journal spread about my love of the show "Vikings", here it is:

oohh how I love me some Ragnar!! I used a bunch of stamps to make this page including the blood dripping, bubble wrap texture, cityscape sunrise, coffee ring stain, double coffee rings, grunge circles, man and woman symbol (but only used the man), star pinbiohazard (only used the word) and last but not least the measuring tape section.  I hope you enjoyed this journal page and I'll leave you with a few close ups:

Have fun with the May inspiration and I can't wait to see how you are inspired!

Guest Designer : Sheri Levitt x2

Today we are being joined by the talented Sheri Levitt again.

HI everyone Sheri here again. I'm back for my second Guest DT project.

I had gotten a couple of these 5x7 canvases at the thrift store last year. One day I was looking through my boxes in my craft room (yes my craft room is still not totally unpacked yet.) I found these so I took one to use for my guest DT.

I glued down a black and white paisley napkin with matte medium. I then took some water down yellow and pink craft paint on the canvas. Didn't like how that looked so I used magenta craft paint and painted over the canvas.

Next I stamped the Line of Chevrons and the 6 hexagon stamps using black craft paint. I had some white lace in my stash that I sprayed with Black Dylusion spray. after it dried I glued it on the canvas with Helmar 450 quick dry.I made some drips with the Black Dylisons spray and Tinsel Color Shine by Heidi Swapp. I then I glued down the silver beaded trim and the black pearl trim to hide the lack of color when I spayed water to make the drips. Finally for the background I felt it needed some white, So I used the heart confetti stencil by UmWowStudio with White Linen Dylusion spray. I also painted the edges of the canvas with black craft paint.

I stamped the Umbrella Girl on white cardstock and colored her with Artist Loft Watercolors and the pearlesent watercolors also by Artist Loft.  The girl I used foam tape and glued her onto the canvas. The I'm a fruit Loop sentiment I stamped on with Black Versafine ink pad on white cardstock, and glued onto the canvas.

Caution

Welcome to a little mixed media creation for the day. I am so in love with the new stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps. There are 4 new stamp sets so make sure you go and see them. They are all different and just fabulous.

So I had no idea what I wanted to do but I have seen some people create these amazing altered postcards. So I have a couple postcards and wanted to give it a go. I played with several stamps to create texture and just love the outcome.

Want to see how I created the background for the postcard? Then you can check out the video below.

I used the stamp Kids in Futuristic Hats - 19656 on white paper, colored the little bits with Distress Ink, and cut them out.

The background was fun to create using Distress Paints, using the stamp Writing Circles Background - 19567 with Distress Ink, and the stamp Texture Background - 19570 with Shimmerz Lemon Drop Dazzlerz. I then stamped Caution Safety Glasses -19560 stamp the on white paper, it it out, and colored that with more Distress Ink.

I also used the stamp Three Staples - 19576 to add just a little bit more to the postcard!

So glad you stopped by. Don't forget head to the store and check out the new stamps!

Items Used:

Viva Las VegaStamps
19649 - E=MC2
19652 - Super Freak
19576 - Three Staples

I NEED You to Celebrate!!

Hello everyone! Susan here with quick and easy card using Viva Las VegaStamps! with a little bit of humor. Quick doesn't exactly describe my stamping style, so this time I decided to go with fun birthday card using an image that is a bit... OFF.

I made a card using the "Uncle Sam Wants You" #5794 image that is a mess-up. Yes we all have them. This is what happens when the stamp falls off the acrylic block when your Miracle Sheet backer is not quite tacky enough anymore... SAM took a little dive when I went to stamp. I gently peeled the stamp up and remounted, then stamped again right on top.

Do stamped images always have to be perfect??! Absolutely not! I thought this one could be used one day and tossed it into the scrap bin. I really like how it resembles one of those old silk screen posters. To make it look more intentional, I swiped around the edges with Picket Fence Distress Stain.

I stamped my sentiments using the same black dye ink and made the "Celebrate Early..." #9340 stamp look equally messed up by swiping with Picket Fence Distress Stain. My motto – nothing goes to waste and there are no mistakes. After some quick matting with dualing blue cardstocks, I layered the pieces over a Distress Stain Splattered star collage embossed paper and a strip of vellum. The card is finished off with a snarky quip... "Happy Birthday from One Old Buzzard to Another!"

"I Need You to Celebrate!"

Silhouette love

Hi there, Glenda here and today I would love to share some silhouette love! What I love about using silhouette stamps is that you can make such pretty backgrounds and let the gorgeous silhouette take center stage.  I made 3 different ATC's using the fabulous Viva Las VegaStamps!.  This first one is called "cherish" using the lovers kissing in boat stamps as well as the flying bird trio.
What I did was stamp the lovers kissing in boat stamp onto some white cardstock  that I had cut to ATC size.
Then I got out my handy dandy watercolor pencils and colored in the water and started in on the sky
and kept coloring using colors I thought would make a nice sunset background.
Then I blended in the watercolors
and then I mounted the card onto some black cardstock so it would pop more, added the flying bird trio, some gold stars and the word cherish.
The next card is called "Abu Dhabi 2015" in tribute to my recent trip to the Middle East. It was amazing!!!!

I stamped the Moroccan scene onto some white cardstock
and since my ink smudged all inside the stamped image I decided to cut that inside area out like shown below.  I also used my watercolor pencils to color in the sand.
Then on the smaller piece of white cardstock I misted it with some blue and orange inks
and the I glued the pieces together and also used the fabulous flying bird trio stamp again and added my words that I printed off from the computer and here is my finished ATC.
My last ATC is called "seek paradise" and it's another tribute to my trip to the Middle East using the fabulous camel and rider stamp as well as the seek paradise stamp along with some rub ons, clear tape and stickers.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my ATC's and as always I would love to know which one was your favorite!  I hope I've also inspired you to use some silhouette stamps as they are sooo fun!! I will leave you with a picture taken last month from my trip Abu Dhabi & Dubai!  This is me on a camel ride!!
You can stop by my blog to see more pictures from my Middle East vacation here. Have a fabulous day!!

Apocalypse

Hello everyone,

It's time for another DT post from me. I love VLVS! stamps, they are so much fun.. For today I did a small art journal...

Here is the finished product:

And here is how it all started. With a clean and white page in my small art journal..

I painted the page with gesso and when that had dried I used a purple Lindys Flat Fabio spray and some Magicals; they are basically mica powders. The names of the colours are quite amusing:
"Midnight rendezvous" and "Gag me with a spoon gray"!!
I just kept spraying, dripping and painting until I was happy with the result.

Next I stamped the background. A full list of all the stamps I used is at the bottom of this post.
Just to point out that the wire mesh on the right side of the page was extended using a grey pencil as it was a little to small to fill the page.

Next I stamped the main image but I didn't do a very good job and had to fill in the image using a black marker. Luckily it doesn't show.

And after some tweaking with purple circles and adding the sentiment it was finished; here is another picture:

I used the following stamps:

Thank you for stopping by !

Until next time !

concrete street art

Hi Hermine here, this time I made something to put in my garden, love street art and really love Banksy.

step 1: take a silicone ice cube mold and pour some concrete in it. Leave over night and then remove the puzzle pieces, leave it to dry (it can take over 4 or 5 days before its completely dry)
step 2: take 3 puzzle pieces and stamp with Stazon Black  and stamp Banksy Rat Gentleman 19606 on one, Banksy Tire swing boy 19600 on the second one and the word Banksy small 19597 on the third one.
step 3: put the puzzle pieces together and lay them somewhere in your garden for people to find.

Warmly Hermine

Challenge Inspiration - Her Wings by DeeDee Catron

Hi folks! :) DeeDee (Marketing and Artistic Director for VLVS!) here today to inspire you for our brand new challenge

The challenge mood board is :

I loved the color scheme, the boldness and the patterns. I also adore butterflies but moved away from the actual image and more towards a sentiment that was imagery heavy.

I was having a hard time in the beginning trying to use so much red, BUT, it only gave me the opportunity to show you just how "loose" your inspiration can be. So without many more words, here is the piece I worked up:

The base is an old piece of music note ephemera. I prepped it with two coats of clear gesso. This not only sealed the paper, but also made a sturdier primed base for me to work on top of.

Then I dove right in with some mark making using found objects (in this case, a recycled bangle) and some Golden fluid acrylic. A bit of water and working around in the background gave me this washed look.

Then there's a bit of dripping and dropping and some journaling with a fine liner.

After I had the background complete I got to work on the middle of the circle with some beautiful Golden Fluid Acrylics in Magenta and Orange. Using my fingers, the two colors and a tiny bit of water I worked up the bright bold red I was looking for. I finished everything off with the most important piece... the winged sentiment. I stamped Her Wings Were Made Of in archival ink by Ranger on watercolor paper. I trimmed it apart and glued it down with Matte Medium. Then I was done! :)

Now stop on over to the Mood Board post and link up to win!
