Tera says "Today I decided to do a fun new take on using dies. As many of you know I love mail art, but gluing pieces on the outside of an envelope can be awkward. To keep the envelope nice and flat, but add depth and dimension I decided to combine stamping with "masking" with Die cuts! This Is a great technique to use on all of your upcoming Christmas tags, envelopes, and even gift wrapping!!"

And that's it folks! Visit the Die-namites blog for their last day and make sure to catch up on leaving comments. We'll be announcing a giveaway soon!!

Did you get lots of inspiration this week? Maybe you can finish your Christmas cards, make  your own wrapping paper or even put together some beautiful handmade gifts.

Die-Namites used:
Winter FirCardinals & Holly

Tina says "I used a vintage Bingo Card as my backdrop, and added sprays, embossing powder, and stamping to continue the handmade feel. I used the 'Writing Background stamp on my Bingo Card. This is a great stamp for any mixed media project! It adds the perfect little touch.Using 2 Die-Namites die-cut shapes (cut from a cereal box), I sprayed/painted them Shimmerz Paints. I love the beautiful shimmer and glitz from the paints! It was a great compliment to the embossed background.
To finish off my home decor project, I added some handmade embellishments from my stash, painted in corresponding colors, and glued them in place. I love the tone on tone look! It has a timeless feel."

step 1:  take a double square card and stamp the Tea Party 19114 with Stazon black and make a mask and cut out.
step 2: stamp  Apothecary Cabinet 19515 but flip it on its side. Cut out the inside of the cabinet and around the tea party image.
step 3: mask off the upper area to create the floor, stamp with Stazon the Harlequin Diamond Background 18920 .
Step 4: mask off the tea party image, the cabinet and the "floor" to create the walls. Using Spotty Background 1461 and stamp  Spider on web line19263 on the left hand side
step 5: remove all masks and colour in with Derwent colouring pencils and white spirit.
step 6: Stamp the text Celebrate 19469 and its your big day 19475 on the inside behind the "window".

Guest Designer : Corrie Herriman x2

Today is our second post from the talented Corrie Herriman:

Hello everybody !

This is my second project as Guest Designer for VLVS! I have really enjoyed doing the projects. For this last one I actually did two little projects and couldn't decide which one to use so I'll show them both. Here goes. The first one is a series of three ATC's with the lovely Banksy stamps in the spotlight :

They were all made in the same way. The background is a gelli print. I have lots of them because they are so handy to use in your projects. Of course you can just paint your background, I do that too sometimes. I used two VLVS! stamps for the background : 19415 – Butterfly Specimens and 5210 – Collage writing. I used some black and white ink to make some splatters. Next I stamped the main images :19488 – Banksy Diving Helmets / 19434 – Banksy Gas Mask Flower girl / 19421 – Banksy girl floating with balloons.

Any spots that were not stamped right, I just filled in with a black marker. I then looked for suitable sentiments and decided on : 18408 – I'm not weird / 19423 – BANKSY / 18409 – Share your Sparkle.

I also used a black ink pad to ink the edges.

I also used the following supplies : Pieces of gelli printed paper. Grey StaZon ink, Black Archival ink and white and black India Ink.

The second project was a postcard. I really liked how this came out :

I made the background by dragging a piece of cardstock through some Dylusions spray inks that I sprayed on my craftsheet with some water. I dried it and repeated the first step until I liked the result. I then stamped the flourish with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder. When it was cool I rubbed it lightly with black Archival Ink. Next I stamped the background and the sentiment. I used the following VLVS! Stamps : 19417 – Victorian Flourish / 19416 – Waybill/Invoice Background and 8225 – Attention le ballet...

For the main image I used 9883 – Striped dancer jumping which I stamped on white card, coloured, cut him out and adhered him on the postcard. Some doodles with a black fine tipped pen and a white paint pen finished it off. Some close-ups:

I also used the following supplies : Cardstock, black and white markers, Ranger Silver embossing powder, Versamark Ink, Archival ink, Memento ink, Dylusions spray inks in pink and orange. StaZon Dove grey ink.

I hope you enjoyed my contributions to this fabulous blog !

Thanks for looking !

November Challenge/Counting Numbers Art Journal page

Hello and Happy Thursday!  Tina here today with my take on the November challenge.

If you haven't seen the challenge yet, here's a peek!  When I saw it, I just knew I had to play along.

I'm not sure if the it was the color palette, elements, or overall fun that inspired me most, but here's what I was inspired to create!

As you can see, my Art Journal page is almost a literal interpretation of the challenge, but with elements of my own.

I began my page by building color with PanPastels.  I LOVE the blendability and intense colors with PanPastels.  They are great for all types of Mixed Media projects, especially Art Journal pages.

I set the PanPastels with a quick layer of water.  Once the page was dry, I randomly stamped the background with background stamps and a bit of stenciling.

I really love the number theme of the challenge, so I added stenciled numbers, that I doodled with a black and white pen.

I also added another stamp to the bottom of my page that was colored with Shimmerz paints.

I hand drew my sentiment and done!

VLVS Stamps Used:
Periodic Table
Directional Circle
Dictionary Page
Design Crosses

Will you be playing along with us this month?  A great prize package is up for grabs for playing along!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Follow the Road not taken.

Howdy everyone! Karen with you again today..

I thought I'd spend a little time with a new friend I found while looking through the VLVS! online store..

Isn't he just so cute, and go on, admit it, He made you smile!

I started off by stamping a few bits and pieces onto some cardstock. I didn't really have a clear idea of where I wanted to go, so I just stamped some random bits and pieces.

I ended up going with:

Road Trip  ( road word)
Don't follow your dreams  ( follow word)

I then collaged my tag with some Tim Holtz  paper, and some  distress crackle paint ( Picket Fence) . While I was waiting for it to dry, I then decided which pieces of the stamps I was going to use, added some very messy colouring to my bunny and cut them out ready to collaged to my tag.  This is what I ended up with.. Have to say he makes me smile!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope I've inspired you to have a little play and do some collaging with your stamps! Until next time..
 Happy Stamping

Karen xx

Dreaming of spring Mail Art

Hello, It's me Tera here again with a "dreaming of spring" mail art piece
(Its snowing here in Ohio, and I'm so NOT a winter person!!! I bet you can see why I'm ready for spring again already)

Lets get started...

Stamps Used:

Girl in Princess Costume

Butterfly Specimens

Line of Grass

Field of Wildflowers

Other supplies:
Distress Markers
Distress ink: in various greens, and weathered wood for the sky
Black ink of choice

Start by stamping the Girl in Princess Costume in the black ink of your choice, then stamp it again on scrap paper to create a "Mask". place your "mask" over your stamped image to protect it while you work. Next stamp your Line of Grass, and Field of Wildflowers in various greens.

Along the edge of your envelope stamp your Butterfly Specimens in black ink. Now add your "clouds" by selective "masking" and inking. (remember to leave the center light so you can read the address on your envelope).

After all of your ink has dried, remove the "mask" and use your markers to add color to bring everything to life!

I hope you are inspired and dreaming of spring along with me!

Under the sea with Viva Las VegaStamps!

I had alot of fun making this trio of ATC's using an "under the sea" theme.  Anyone who knows me knows my love of mermaids so of course I had to make a couple using my favorite sea creature, the gorgeous mermaid! Here is the first ATC using the fabulous mermaid stamp as well as the waybill invoice, the jagged chain link fence and row of stars.
If you look closely you will see that I used black embossing powder for the jagged chain link fence and gold embossing powder for the row of stars.  I also glued some brightly colored beads onto the card as well.
Here is my next ATC and this was my first time using the fun scuba lady
and if you look closely here you can see that I also used the elegant flower stamp along with some red and green embossing powder.  I wanted to make it look like there were ocean plants so this stamp was perfect for that! I also used some clear acrylic buttons to look like oxygen bubbles.
Here is my last ATC using the mermaid lying down
I hope you enjoyed the journey to the bottom of the sea and until next time,

Glenda

Door stopper

Hi Hermine here, this time I found a children's hobbybox to make a door stopper, but I wanted my own unique one of a kind version by altering it. This is so much fun.

front view

side view

close-up

in function (doens't it match my new flooring perfectly)

works perfect

the children's hobbybox I bought (for once I didn't forget to make a picture of the before phew)

step 1: take all the parts out of the box, I kept the fabrix, the buttons and the fiber with the pompoms, the rest I put aside.
step 3: sew all parts together, I did this by hand because my sewing skills are that great, and even worse with a sewing machine, but its easy because they are all rectangles.
step 4: fill the door stopper with heavy material like pebbles. Sew on the handle.
step 5: give the focal image some white accents with a white gel pen.

Hope you like it!

Warmly Hermine
