2019 DESIGN TEAM CALL!!!!!!!

Design Team CALL!!!!

We’re looking for all types of artists and welcome anyone who has a passion for rubber stamping to apply! Bring on the Mixed Media Artists, the Card Makers, the Scrapbookers, the Altered Artists, the Scene Stampers… we want you ALL!! International applicants welcome to apply, too.

Our terms last six months. This term will run from January 1^st – June 30th and has 8 openings. 

Design Team requirements during your six month term are as follows:

1) Regularly promote VLVS! through:

a. online galleries

b. your blog

c. social media like facebook, twitter, youtube, instagram and pinterest

d. and by submitting to publications. 

2) Participate in our public VLVS! dedicated Facebook group.

3) Complete a minimum of two (2) projects per month to be posted on the VLVS! blog, always using only Viva Las VegaStamps! images; 1 tutorial & 1 inspiration post. Details for projects provided to team members.

3) Participate in the online private facebook group for the team. Important information like schedules, future hops, logos, links and contact information are all kept in the group. I run a lot of ideas by the team and value their honest opinions. 

4) Participate in blog hops and/or product swaps. (Some may be on a volunteer basis only) 

5) Mail two (2) completed projects to the store for display. This is out of your whole six month term. We love having projects posted all around the store for people to ogle as they peruse through our stamps.

In return VLVS! will: 

1) Provide you with regular shipments to keep you fully stocked on supplies, including but not limited to VLVS! Stamps, Miracle Tape, Embossing powder, and any product swap goods. 

2) Provide you with a detailed schedule at least 2 weeks in advance. 

3) Compensate you for extra work outside of the regular schedule. This will be based upon volunteer projects and any extra hops or swaps outside of said schedule. 

4) Regularly promote you and your projects through online social medias, as well as display you and your personal blog address on our company blog.

- the link to any and all online galleries you regularly upload to

- any other important links you think I’d like to see

Through the looking glass

Hello everyone,

The month of November has just started and that means the start of a new challenge! It is a fun one too !

Here is the inspiration board:

The words to go with this are : books, journals, alice in wonderland, gardens, garden items, terrariums, cloches, florals, pretty backgrounds, stark focal points, numbers, dates.

Of course when I saw the words : Alice in Wonderland I was sold ! I have made an Art Journal page:

This was so much fun to make ! I started with heat embossing the flowers with white embossing powder. Next I used Distress Oxide Inks to make the background. I used Antique Linen, Fossilised Amber and Peeled Paint. I used the same inks to stamp over the background here and there. Next I stamped the Alice in Wonderland figures on white card stock and gave them a tiny bit of shading, cut them out and adhered them onto the page. I also added some shading under the figures. Lastly I stamped the sentiment.

10528 - Rabbit looking at pocket watch

The floral stamp I used for the background and the library dates stamp are from the new release

This Book Belongs To : New Challenge NOVEMBER

It's time for November's challenge!!! 

This is a SPLASH o' COLOR challenge : be inspired by the images we have going on. the beautiful floral background, the alice in wonderland imagery, think about gardens books, journals, garden items, terrariums, cloches, pretty backgrounds, stark focal points, numbers, dates, black & white & vintage browns... but don't forget to throw in your own SPLASH o' COLOR!!!

Don't forget the rules:

-Create a new project based on our inspiration board (it has to be posted this month, but you can certainly link up to other challenges as well!)

-Use at least one (but certainly more if you want) Viva Las VegaStamps! rubber stamps

(We are now allowing competitors stamps to be on your work, but please make VLVS! the focus of the project, thank you.)

-Post it to your blog with a link back to us

-Upload to our linky using your direct blog post link (You may also upload via facebook, flickr or other gallery)

The Cat | Sue Plumb

Happy Halloween everyone!
Sue Plumb here with my latest design team project for you. In keeping with the Hallowen spirit, today I have a creepy mixed media scrapbook layout to share using some of the recently released Halloween stamps and a snap of our family cat. Unfortunately our furry boy has a bit of a reputation for giving my daughter a scratch or a nip, so I made this page especially for her. (She instantly proclaimed it to be her favourite page I have ever made and it is already framed and up in her room! haha)

I went with a different size for this layout - opting for an 8.5x11" size page, instead of the usual 12x12" I usually create. I started with a piece of white cardstock, and added some Dina Wakley acrylic paints to the background. First 'Elephant', followed by 'Umber', 'Black' and then 'Cheddar'. I alternated between using a brush and brayer to apply the layers; finishing off with 'Buff' applied to the area where my photo was going to go.

Once the paint was dry it was time to add some stamping! I began with the Cross Marks Background, stamping it randomly around my page using Staz On ink. I also added some larger marks using the Carved Xs stamp.

Once I had the marks down on the background, I added some feature images - the new Raven Looking Up in the bottom right corner; and the Ext Witch Hazel label a few times around the page. I also added the Beware Of: list, using the Set of Vampire Teeth to frame it at the top and bottom.

I couldn't create a page like this without any "blood", right?! I used Colour Blast 'Sunburnt' Colour Artist Ink and applied it by dripping it onto the page using the dropper, and also by splattering it using a small brush.

I then added my photo (I had pre-cut around the silhouette and attached some cardboard to the back); adding a small paper doily and some frayed gauze underneath it before securing it to the page. I altered my photo to give it some extra "creepiness" by rubbing a little red paint around his eyes and using a fine tip white Sharpie to white out his eyes.

I used a handmade DIY chevron embellishment from Charms Creations and altered it by stamping directly onto the fabric using the Row of Distressed Lines stamp. I then attached it to my page using Helmar 450 adhesive.

I stamped the May Contain Human Flesh quote onto some white cardstock, then fussy cut around it and stuck some cardboard underneath to pop it up from the background.

To complete my "list" and also to provide a title for my page, I added the words the cat using some old Sassafras Lass alpha stickers.

Hello crafty friends,

It's my pleasure today to show you a little tutorial for a fun card I made with some of my favorite images ....

 I used watercolor paper to stamp my background, the beautiful wall, this stamp is so very versatile for many occasions!

 

 I stamped my images also on watercolor paper, which I had inked a bit, because I wasn't sure in the beginning how the little creatures would end up. This is just me, I roll with the punches, no plan, just let go.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of vellum. Due to the dark wall in the back, I had to enlighten this a bit by adding 2 layers of tape ...

 After I fuzzy cut everything I colored all pieces with Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens. 

The otherness? Well, here it is ... the Tim Holtz Paper Doll!

This was so much fun to create, I love all the colors and I love the little funny creatures!

Art journal page by Elina

Elina here with you today, sharing my latest art journal page for which I used the fun 'mirror stamping' technique:

My starting point was a page in my art journal that had got some paint from the project next to it. I did not want to try to cover the paint stains with gesso, but used a piece of craft cardstock instead. Before gluing the strip on the bottom of the page I inked the page with yellow and orange Distress inks.

I stamped the main image on white paper, and replicated it with mirror stamping: In mirror stamping you first stamp the image on a smooth surface like the back of a large stamp or a piece of ez-mount foam. Then you use that surface as your stamp, and it transfers the inked image onto your paper. This technique works best for outlined images, but as you see here, it can very well be used for more detailed images, too. My mistake was to use a bit dry ink pad, and I had to reinforce some of the lines of both images with a thin black marker. But the result looks quite nice!

For the bottom part of the page I added layers of stamped images. Some of the images I fuzzy cut and glued on the page, some I just stamped on the previous layers.

The top of the page I decorated with stamped dots and stamped and fuzzy cut circles.

Using various stamped images and creating collage art journal pages is so much fun. True art journaling pleasure!

Organised Chaos a Video Tutorial by Fiona

Hello VLVS! peeps! Fiona here with you today sharing a little video tutorial I have put together using the awesome Tina Walker designed stamps from VLVS!

Creating this page was so much fun. I love the way it turned out, how the hands are reaching out to help the upside down chick hanging from the top of the page.

I often think our art is exactly this .... organised chaos and that it can all crumble so easily if we don't have the help of our fellow artists holding us together.

This page is a tribute to all the awesome artists who support me in my art work.

Bright ideas

Hello crafty friends!

I hope you are all doing well. Today I want to share and inky tag...
(this is one of the larger 3 x 6.25 in manila tags)

I started by adding blue (salty ocean distress oxide) and yellow (fossilized amber distress oxide) ink on my glass work mat, then blotting it up with my tag. 

(you can set this aside to dry or use a heat tool)

I originally planned to go with an Alice in wonder land theme

(but like many bright ideas, my brain changed its mind and said no... lets try something else. )

(I'm sharing this so you can see we all have these moments where things just don't come together like we plan)

So you can see I next stamped my scribble circle and my /// in black archival ink. 

When my brain changed gears, I chose to add more blue edging around my tag with a blending tool. Next I added more details my stamping the chevron and adding details with a white Gelly roll pen. 

Ok, to finish my piece off I used a separate piece of card stock and stamped my light bulb. 

(I used distress ink to color the card stock before stamping on it)

I used pop dots to adhere my light and to give it depth.
