"Still" an Art Journal Page by Jenn Engle

Hello! Today I have a very simple art journal page using the Whimsical Jester Stamp on acetate. I think this stamp works well with the acetate stamping technique because you are able to see thru all those tiny lines and intricate details to the background.

The Whimsical Jester can also be purchased on an entire plate of rubber (plate 1457), and I think that all of the images on this plate work so well with acetate stamping.

To see exactly how I made this page from start to finish, be sure to check out the process video linked at the end of this post.

Wonder?

How did you enjoy last week? I know I did.

I played a little further creating something else to go along with my box.

What do you think? Isn't this cute stamp just adorable?

I used some clear detail embossing powder to to stamp the largest moon in the stamp Moon Phases - 19543. The embossing powder will resist the spray.

I really enjoyed using two different dimensional paints from Art Anthology with the Wildflower Silhouette - 19556. I just used a paintbrush to add it to the stamp.  Then I used the spray to add color for the sky. I used the stamp Wonderland - 19580 to give a little title to this project.

The Girl in Princess Costume - 19536 was stamped on some white cardstock and cut out.

I used black embossing powder on embossable acetate to stamp the Dragonfly Wings - 11042. Then painted the wings with alcohol ink and cut them out.  I created dimension using cardboard and pop dots. I also added some Prima Glass Beads to act as flowers adhered using Glossy Accents.

I even have a quick video on how I created this lovely little project.

So check it out and let me know what you think!

The Winning Costume Gets the PRIZE... and a CORN-u-Copia of Halloween Goodness!!!

Welcome to Viva Las Vegastamps! Susan here today to bring you some Halloween Treats and inky goodness. I set out to make a fun treat holder with handmade fringe, distress stained acetate, and a handmade acetate prize ribbon... with my Miracle Tape, assembly is quick and easy! Acetate is always fun to work with and it's the current challenge at Craft Stamper's Take It Make It Challenge.

Also - I've made my own crepe paper fringe with Miracle Tape! It's super easy and adds just the right amount of seasonal color and festive texture. First I layered an orange section of crepe paper {about 3 feet long}; then ran a stripe of 1/4" Miracle Tape down the center for the entire length. Then I repeated with black; then tape and repeated 4 more times alternating colors until I had six layers.

I added a stripe of Miracle Tape to the back of the first layer; then pressed everything flat to get good adhesion in the layers and folded the whole thing in half. The final stem is trimming small cuts at about 1/4" intervals to make the fringe.

I waited until after I adhered it to my piece to fluff it out.

Now for painting the acetate. I spread some Peeled Paint and Seedless Grape Ranger Distress Stains onto a craft sheet and rolled over with my brayer. This will make a nice drippy background.

I dragged the acetate through the puddles of distress stain, rolled a little with my brayer and repeated until I got the effect I desired. This particular acetate I'm using takes ink very well because it is recycled film from my imagesetter at work {please test inks on your inkjet or overhead projector acetate before trying with your final project}. I let it sit and dry for about a 1/2 an hour and while I waited, I mopped up the rest of this inky goodness with some blank tags and cardstock for use later. Before forming my cone, I stamped the creepy tree with Staz-On Black ink and accented the eerie eyes in the bat, pumpkin and stump with Sakura of America Souffle® 3-D Opaque yellow pen to make them glow.

I added strips of Miracle Tape to the length along the bottom edge and also along the short edge where the seam will meet. I formed it into a cylinder shape, exposed the tape and sealed my tube. This is a good time to secure with a couple staples for good measure.

Now a bit about the ribbon rosette... if you are going to attempt this in acetate - you need a hot glue gun and several hands {though I managed to do it with just two}. I reserved a section of stained acetate that was mainly purple and cut three strips using my Fiskars deckle edge scissors. I stamped the winner stamp on a scrap of green/purple stained cardstock and punched out with a tag punch. I gave it a shimmery touch with my Sakura of America Gelly Roll® Stardust® Glitter Pen. The Stardust is my most used of all pens - it's sheer and gives a twinkle to everything.

Two of the strips I accented with ribbon for the tails. The third section I scored at 1/4" intervals on my Scor-Pal® and accordion folded. Now for the tricky part. Form the accordion into a loop and secure the ends together with Miracle Tape, then lay it flat and form it into a circle. I had another punched tag ready with Miracle Tape to secure the back, but it popped off as soon as I let go. So I put loads of hot glue in the center and sandwiched the top stamped tag on top to hold it tight. I put a glass on top to keep it flat until the glue completely cooled {about 10 minutes}. When cooled I added a small dab to hold the tails on and it's all complete.

I added the fringe and fluffed it pretty; punched holes and laced some coordinating ribbon and filled my cone with candy corn - topped off with some green and purple paper fringe that makes the Prize Ribbon "POP".

This prize is ready to be awarded... or I've earned my sweet reward - LOL!

Stamping can BEE so Much FUN!!

It's finally the weekend!!!! Welcome to Viva Las Vegastamps!!! Susan here today bringing you some inky inspiration ... straight from the beehive.

With my last order from VLVS!, I completed my collection of bee stamps so I am ready to play. You might notice that my paper is stamped with the "Six Hexagon Background #19076" and also looks embossed. Well, it is. I made my own embossing template using the stamp. If you attend my weekly demos at the Saturday Crafts Fair on Linqto, I recently shared how I make custom embossing template for my stamps {CLICK HERE to view demo}.

I started by using several Ranger Distress Inks to add color to my Kromecote cardstock base with the faux airbrush technique. After heat setting ink, I ran the paper and handmade embossing template through my Cuttlebug. I rubbed some more ink over the high points gently to accentuate the embossing, then stamped the "Six Hexagon Background #19076" randomly in places. Now my honeycomb background is complete.

I stamped the bees into the background using Jet Black Staz-On Ink and also stamped each bee onto clear acetate. I also stamped each bee's wings onto a Miracle Sheet. What is a MIRACLE SHEET??? It's a full 8 1/2" x 11" page of MIRACLE TAPE - perfect for making all sorts of projects, die cut shapes and making DIY Washi Tape, too. On the backside of the acetate, I colored the body and head of each bee using a Sharpie Gold Paint Pen. I trimmed out the wings out of Miracle Sheet, then gently peeled off backing and applied to backside of acetate to corresponding stamped wing sections.

After burnishing down my miracle tape wings, I remove backing and dust adhesive with Perfect Pearls in pearl to give wings a glittery iridescence. I fussy cut each bee out of the acetate and slightly bent each wing. I adhered each bee to the background using Diamond Glaze - only putting adhesive behind the bodies and legs. I left the wings free to have depth and dimension.

To finish this off I'm placing this in a black wood frame from the Dollar Tree. It's a bit rough and rustic looking and will be the perfect home for my "Hive of Bees".

Supplies used: STAMPS - Six Hexagon Background #19076Bee Facing Left #1708Bee Facing Right #1820, and Bee Wings Open #1926; Also used Kromecote cardstock; Miracle Sheet; Jet Black Staz-On Ink; Clear Acetate; Sharpie Gold Paint Pen; Sakura Gelli Stardust Pen; Diamond Glaze; Ranger Distress Markers, Several colors of Ranger Distress Inks {Old Paper, Antique Linen & Frayed Burlap}; Ranger Embossing Ink, and Ranger Perfect Pearls {Pearl}.

Elegance

Good Morning all my artsy stamping friend!

I have an awesome, gorgeous, pretty card to show you.

Pretty eh?
I used the Flower Elegant Bird 2.

Here is the link and a picture of it heat embossed using black pigment ink and
Ultra High Embossing Powder.

FLOWER ELEGANT BIRD 2
EMBOSSING POWDER

Its a pretty easy card.

1. Heat emboss the flower on clear acetate.

2. On the opposite site put some glitter glue and while still wet sprinkle glitter into the glue. Let it dry.

3. In the meantime, select some pretty paper to compliment the image.

4. Cut the stamped image out and adhere to the paper.

5. Add a pretty ribbon.

FIVE steps. Thats it. Art does not have to complicated to be beautiful.
This stamp is beautiful. I can imagine a whole set as a gift.

One final thing, I used MIRACLE TAPE to adhere the image to the card.
I really love this tape as its repositional. Then it becomes quite strong and permanent.

take care,
ANg

You Never Forget Your Friends

Blend mixed media to create a card or illustration to express the sentiment of friendship.  As I get older, I might forget small things - but - I never forget my friends!!!!

For this project a matte board is a heavy weight to use as an illustration, although; cardstock folded into a card can be used.  Stamping on acetate and creating a wax background was also used.

VLVS Images:
8674 Quote: I Forget Some Things
12972 Berries and Leaves (Ink up leaf only and stamp)

Acetate Stamping:  Most stamp/scrapbook stores sell sheets of acetate.  If not, an office supply store selling presentation covers can be used.  Use a good permanent ink (not all are created equal) to stamp image.  I used Memento's (which isn't totally a permanent ink but dries permanent).

Stamp straight down so the stamp doesn't slip around.  Lift straight up.  Let image sit for about 30 seconds to set the ink.  Alcohol ink is used to tint the image.

Use Miracle Tape Sheet to adhere to the back of the image.  Cut out the image and mount on tag.

Wax Background:  There are many ways to work with encaustics (wax), this is easy and fun.  If you have wax tools then you know how easy this is.  If you do not have wax tools, a simple Clover iron is available at JoAnn's.  It's a small pressing iron with a triangle iron-shaped tip for pressing seams apart.  It is inexpensive and easy to use.

I use wax (available at art stores) however, crayons can be used.  Crayons aren't the best and I do not know what is in them, but very cheap in a pinch!

When the iron is heated, touch the back of the iron onto the wax or put the crayon up to the back and let it melt on to the iron.  Use the iron like a tool and spread the wax around the surface of Kromecote cardstock.  You want a good glossy cardstock so the iron glides across the surface.  Use a couple colors - you can do this one at a time or mix the colors on the iron.

After creating your wax background, stamp with permanent ink and cut out.

While there are 2 different medias used on this project, I added leaf buttons for dimension as well as May Arts suede ribbon.  This ribbon is sturdy, feels cool, and adds a different finish to the project.

Follow the photo's to see where to mount pieces.  Decorative paper, a decorative paper number piece, and the sentiment is adhered.

Fall and Thanksgiving reminds me of all I am Thankful for.  I count my blessings for all the friends I have.  They are all a treasure to me and I cherish them.  Even my computer friends who always enrich my life and support me in all I do!!!
