Steampunking!!!

My all time favorite stamps at Viva Las VegaStamps! is the wonderful collection of Steampunk. For my last post on this fantastic team I had to pull out some of my favorites! The Victorian Balloon, Flying ManSteampunk Warrior and Nesting Gears

Lately I have seen a lot of tunnel cards in magazines and online.  I thought all the flying Steampunk contraptions would look great in one.  Here you can see the Victorian BalloonFlying Man and Man in Flying Machine inside the tunnel card.  They are stamped on a transparency and heat embossed with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder. zA hint of color was added with Copics.

The tunnel card is four 5 x 6 inch pieces of card stock for the front and back.  The front is cut out to create a 1 inch frame. The sides are scored to create an accordion between the back and front. Miracle Tape was used to construct the card.

The front and back were stamped repeatedly with the Nesting Gears.  Also on the front frame are the Fancy Vintage Key, Key 3/4 x 1 1/4, Steampunk Gothic and Steampunk Gear

Just inside the frame the Binocular Man is peering out of the frame, he was stamped on a transparency. On the outside of the frame is the Steampunk Warrior stamped on craft card stock. Both were heat embossed with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder

If you look carefully you can see all the dimensions inside of the tunnel. Tunnel cards are fun to make, give one a try!

Stamping with VLVS! Kromecote!

VLVS! Kromecote Cardstock is my paper favorite to stamp on. On a piece of VLVS! Kromcote Cardstock 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 I lightly sprayed with SmoochSpritz, then cut to size for each card.
"Don't Follow Your Dreams"
The VLVS! Follow Your Dreams (Plate 893) and VLVS! with Wings (Plate 893) were stamped with black ink on the VLVS! Kromecote Cardstock spritzed earlier. The images were heat embossed with VLVS! High Gloss Embossing Powder. The wings and dress of the girl have been tinted with Tim Holtz Distress Markers. Stamp the seeds only from the VLVS! Dandelion & Extra Seed-Susan M. Brown (Plate 918) using ColorBox Raspberry Ink. Attach a bit of May Arts Fiber to the bottom of the card. Layer on a red cardstock base.

Perfect for an A2 Card (quarter sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 sheet). The VLVS! Worn Clock Face (Plate 918 was stamped with black ink on the VLVS! Kromecote Cardstock spritzed earlier. Clearsnap + VLVS! Final Day!!

WOW! What a week jam packed with BEAUTIFUL inspiration!!

Here's a GIANT thank you to Clearsnap for partnering up with us :) Both design teams have presented some beautiful work using their inks and our stamps!

It's a sweet sadness that I get to share with you today.. the final day of our collaboration! At least it's one more chance to revel in beauty.

So one more time... I'm sharing THREE projects with you today!!

The first by Sandra Strait!

Supplies:
VLVS! Stamps

Art Is The Last 1 1/2 x 1 1/2

Charred Wood BackGround 4 1/2 x 5 3/4

Clearsnap Colorbox Inkpads
Archival dye-Gooseberry, Coral, Key Lime Pie
Fluid Chalk-Peach Pastel,,Aquamarine, Alabaster
Clearsnap Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink-Molasses, Green Apple
Other
5x7 Vellum Bristol paper, Golden Clear Granular gel medium, Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder,

White gel pen, 3D foam dots, Palette knife, Ink blending tools--bullet and brush tips.
To create this beauty she says "Recently I've been painting landscapes using inkpads for color.  When I was allowed to choose some products from Clearsnap for this blog hop, I went hunting through the catalog for just the right colors to match a photo that I had.

I blocked in all the colors by pouncing the inkpads where needed.  I dotted part of the Charred Wood stamp and embossed it to create ripples in the water (whichh doesn't show well in the scans). Then I loaded up a brush tip ink blending tool with Gooseberry and Aquamarine to draw the trees. I added more colors with the ink blending tools and when satisfied, I slathered on the granular gel medium.  When it was dry, I colored it with the molasses smooch, and added some Green Apple smooch for the leaves.  When you hold it up to the light the smooch glimmers as though the sun is shining through.  The last step was to stamp the 'Art is the last form of magic that exists' on a seperate piece of paper and adhere it with 3D foam dots.  Including drying time for the gel medium to dry, this took about 45 minutes to do."
Second we have Lyneen:

Lyneen says "Spray Smooch Spritz on Kromcote Cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 for base background.  Use star shaped puncinella and ColorBox Raspberry Ink with finger dauber. Cut in half to make two cards.  Stamped images with ColorBox Chocolate Ink and hear embossed with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.  Highlight images with Smooch. Trim with May Arts fibers. "

She's used the following supplies:

Kromcote Cardstock
Miracle Tape
Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder
Chevron Banner
Walkies for Otto
Large Flying Bird
Men in Balloon Basket

Clearsnap Products:
Smooch Spritz - Pink Sprinkles
Smooch - Mocha
Smooch - Silver Fox
Smooch - Gold Lame
ColorBox Chocolate Ink

And we're rounding off the week with Pinky!

Pinky says these cards are easy peasy and that's great because they're sarcastic, witty, snarky, and so perfect for SO many of our closest friends! Whip a couple up and pop 'em in the mail!
Products Used:
Clearsnap Colorbox Inks
VLVS Plate 1404

Making Backgrounds!

It is always fun to try new techniques using what is around the house, shop/garage or in our creative supply stash.  Today's post is about making backgrounds.

Faux Wood Background
This is an ATC from a SWAP... The theme of the swap was "FROM THE SHOP." My shop items are masking tape and locking washers! over lapping layers of Masking Tape on the base card stock (2 1/2 x 3 1/2), swipe with Chocolate Brown. Stamp VLVS! Harlequin Diamond Background with Barn Red after stamping off. Note: stamping off is inking the stamp then stamping on another sheet of paper before on the actual project.  Next stamp the VLVS! Easy Dog Rider and Route 66 Road Sign with Black. Cover the entire card with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder, heat the embossing powder until clear, this gives the card a nice finish. Add locking washers (available at the hardware store) for embellishment and a touch of color with COPICS.

Supplies:
VLVS! Stamp Harlequin Diamond Background
VLVS! Easy Dog Rider
VLVS! Route 66 Road Sign
VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder
Masking Tape (shop)
Card stock
Inks: Chocolate Brown, Barn Red and Black
Heat Emboss Gun
Locking Washers(shop)
COPICS

RESIST With
Stamp the VLVS! Nike Statue and VLVS! Two Columns in the back ground with white ink (one statue with violet ink), using masks to keep from stamping over previously stamped images. Heat emboss with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.  Spritz with mists, wipe the mist from the embossed images. Randomly stamp VLVS! Swirls to create borders with violet ink. Ink May Arts Lace with chocolate ink and adhere with VLVS! Miracle Tape. What a great background!!!
Supplies:
Journal Clairfontaine
Ink White - Violet - Chocolate
Mist - Winter Grass Stewart Superior
Mist - Sandalwood
Add VLVS! Lady with Arms stamped on Kromecote Cardstock, fuzzy cut and add her in the foreground.

Washi Tape Background
To see step by step instuctions on making your own Washi Tape check out Dee Dee's Washi Tape Tutorial posted earlier this week. It is well worth watching!!!
For this card place VLVS! Miracle Tape 1 inch on white tissue. Use an dauber or sponge to apply brown ink directly to the white tissue.
Randomly stamp images of VLVS! stamps Draw,Pen TipsPointed Pen TipA Drawing Is and This is where I draw the line on the tissue. Note: the images are partially stamped on the tape. Now you have beautiful one of a kind Washi Tape.
For this card the Washi Tape was cut to fit the card stock panel and used as a background. A few pen nibs were added in the lower left.  Stamp the VLVS! Feather Pen Collage on coordinating card stock and mount with foam tape.
Supplies:

White Tissue (dollar store)
Pen Nibs (thrift store)
Card stock
Ink Brown & Black

Curtains
Another background can be done using VLVS! Stage Curtains stamps to create a mini stage. This is a background I used last weekend when the VLVS! Design Team had their fantastic blog hop BLAST FROM THE PAST using VLVS! Oldie But Goodies Stamps! My stamp was the VLVS! MAN WITH HOOP! Here I created an altered tin with a stage.

My VLVS! Christmas Smash Journal!

What is a smash journal? If you don't have time to  scrapbook pages of everyday life this is a fun way to keep the memories. Especially during the month of December, with so much happening we barely have time to breathe. For my December post I am starting a smash book! Use any book... it can be blank, lined, have pictures (mine is a school composition book). A place I can glue mementos from life this month. So many things happen and so little time to capture them on paper, random thoughts can be jotted down, bits and pieces of each day. You can make your smash book with a theme or just everyday life. This particular book will be a book for the month of December 2012.

Cut pattern paper, distress with ink and glue paper to the cover of the book. Repeat on the back and inside covers. On the front stamp the VLVS! Steampunk Christmas Tree and VLVS! Happy Holidays. Heat emboss with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder. May Arts Leather is tied around the spine. Add 2012 Thickers and Scrabble pieces with a quick dry glue.
With quick dry glue add locking washers to the tree and trim with Stickles, add Gem and large key.

Now the book is ready to start adding my memories of the month. be sure to use scraps of pattern paper to cover the white pages!!!!  Have FUN.
My first page is a memory page for the Advent Calendar I made for Day 4 of the Week of Inspiration for VLVS! in November using Plate 1430 the December Daily. This month I am sharing each ornament in my Count Down to Christmas on my BLOG HERE!

The background paper for this page is a lovely holiday paper bag I couldn't resist using. On the edge I have added some May Arts Ribbon

Add: pictures, receipts, quotes, things people say, a thought that may trigger a story later, do some stamping, make lists. Anything and everything goes in a smash book. ENJOY!

DD Inspiration Day #4

Hello!! Welcome to our week full of inspiration using Plate1430! Stay tuned all week for some amazing works in which the Viva Las VegaStamps! Design Team has utilized our "December Daily" plate.

First today is LYNEEN! She's created this wonderful Christmas Calendar and says "
Each day during the month of December I will feature each ornament along with an idea to do with the family each day... my count down to Christmas Day be sure to stop by my blog http://dreamingofcastles.blogspot.com/ "

Along with Plate1430 Lyneen used :
Swirl stamps
Viva Las VegaStamps! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder

Other Supplies:
Ink VersaFine Black, Tim Holtz Distress, VersaMark, Green Glitter, Sakura Crystal Lacquer, Sand paper and Nail file, Pattern Paper, Tissue Paper Paint (old sewing pattern), Bakers Twine, Paint brush, Scissors, Display - Vintage Window and decorative Snowflakes.

1- Paint one side of the chip board ornaments with an off white color - let dry. Figure 1
2- Adhere pattern paper to the back side of the chip board ornaments. With sand paper & file sand them to get crisp clean edges.
3- Stamp December Daily Numbers on tissue paper that has been sprayed with hairspray to keep the ink from bleeding. Heat emboss numbers with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder. Figure 2
4- Stamp images directly on the back (paper) side of the chip board ornaments. Heat emboss numbers with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.
5- Distress with Tim Holtz ink direct from pad to chip board ornaments.
6- Add green glitter to the edge of each ornament. Use Sakura Crystal lacquer as the glue.
7- On the painted side of the chip board ornaments randomly stamp swirls with Tim Holtz Distress ink. Heat emboss numbers with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.
8- User VersaMark Pad, directly apply to the swirl side of chip board ornaments, add the tissue paper number and apply VersaMark to the number. Cover with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder and heat. The ornament almost looks like glass.
9- Tie bakers twine to each chip board ornaments at varying lengths, attach to display. My display is an old window I picked up at a thrift store!

Thanksgiving Greetings!

Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks and I sure have a lot to be thankful for!  Today I have two projects made with the VLVS! Cornucopia or horn of plenty is a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container shaped overflowing with produce. See more here at Wikipedia
First a card for the holiday.  Here I stamped the VLVS! Cornucopia directly on a piece of pattern paper with Versamark Ink.  Heat embossed with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder and colored with Tim Holtz Distress Markers.
The image was layered on several pieces of card stock adhered with VLVS! Miracle Tape. Now write a note inside and send out in the mail!
Dress up your dining table on Thanksgiving with my second project, a napkin ring. Stamp the VLVS! Cornucopia on Kromecote Cardstock with Versamark Ink.  Heat emboss with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder and color with Tim Holtz Distress Markers.
Fussy cut the image and attach to a piece of paper that will fit around your napkins. Wait to attach the ends until you are ready to wrap the napkins and adhere with VLVS! Miracle Tape!

Bottled FRANK!

I have Bottled Frank and he is attracting flies!!!
I am loving all the new Halloween Viva Las Vegastamps! stamps this year. There are three ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE new Halloween plates this year. Plates # 827 (which I am using today), 1429 and 1433.
Plate 827
Kromecote Cardstock has a glossy side and a matte side, for this card I used the matte side. I love how the ink does not run or blur when the images are stamped on it.
First, stamp the Bottle - from Plate 827 twice on paper to use as a mask. The first image, cut the bottle image out (lower left) and the second image cut the inside of the bottle out (lower right).  Now stamp the bottle onto the card. Place the first mask on the stamped image protecting the inside of the bottle when stamping the spiked fence.  Now with the second mask over the bottle stamp Frankenstein Face - from Plate 827 in the bottle with VF Olympic Green. Heat Emboss the images with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder

Next stamp the Dripping Blood - from Plate 827 several times along the top of the card with VF Crimson Red and CTM Barn Red. Stamp the Harlequin Diamond Background using VersaMark and the Fly - from Plate 827 three times with black ink. Carefully heat emboss the images with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder. Do not use the heat gun in one spot too long or the images will melt together.
To give the Bottle a glass look paint it with Sakura Crystal Lacquer mixed with Citrine.  After all the images are stamped and heat embossed and the lacquer is dry, use Tim Hotlz Tea Dye Ink and apply directly to the card.  The embossed images and lacquer will resist the ink.

Stamp "Infectious Waste" - from Plate 827 on craft color paper with black ink. Cut out in a tag shape and staple Ribbon May Arts - Grosgrain - Stitched Edge to the tag. Attach to card with VLVS! Miracle Tape.

STAMPO HINGE TAPE ATC!

I love Viva Las Vegastamps! Stampo Tapes, There are for different ones: Hinge, Bolt, O-ring and Strap.  They are fun to use on cards, ATC's and collages.  When I use them I try to  cut the image out with much difficulty, many times tearing into the image I am trying to cut out.
VLVS! Miracle Tape Sheets to the rescue.  Now I cut an image from the roll of tape. (Today I am using STAMPO's Hinge Tape) lay it onto a sheet of VLVS! Miracle Tape Sheets then I cut it out.  I don't have to worry about tearing the tape as I cut, since there is a paper backing.
NOW I HAVE A STAMPO's HINGE TAPE STICKER!
When I am ready to use it all I have to do is remove the paper backing!!!!

Today I used my STAMPO's HINGE TAPE STICKERS on an ATC. For this ATC I cut a 3 1/2 in x 5 inch piece of pattern paper. Folded the sides in at 1 1/2 inch. Inked all the edges including folds. Placed the STAMPO's HINGE TAPE STICKERS on the outside folds of the ATC.  With the Two sides folded into the center stamped Fancy Keyhole and embossed with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.
Then I cut a 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch pattern paper and adhered it to the inside of the ATC with VLVS! Miracle Tape. Stamped the Fan Lady on Balloon on tissue paper adhered her inside.  Stamped Art is the Last Form of Magic that Exists and embossed with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.

Be sure to check out the ATC SWAP HERE AT Viva Las Vegastamps! Forum.
