Steampunk Book with Steampunk Tape and Stamps!

This is a great little booklet that can be made for any occasion.  You could put a gift card, poem, pictures and stamped tags in the pockets.  For the wrap instead of the usual ribbon I used VLVS! STEAMPUNK STRAP TAPE!  To do this I took the tape and stuck the sticky side of clear tape to the sticky side of the Steampunk Strap Tape, carefully cutting excess tape away, use a dot of VLVS! Miracle Tape to keep it in place.
The base is 8 1/2 x 11. Folded in half lengthwise and the opposite direction in thirds.  You and see where I tore one section, punched a half circle in another, cut a diagonal in the third, folded the forth down and cut a little bit of the fourth to create a pop up on the fold! I am using a pattern from a video done by Terri Sproul a couple of weeks ago. On the inside of the booklet randomly stamp the Nesting Gears (VersaFine Crimson Red). I added a wrap to the final section (9" x 2 1/2").

All stamping was done with Stewart Superior Memories Ink, (Madonna Blue and Black), Memento Rich Cocoa or VersaFine Crimson Red. All images were heat embossed with VLVS! Ultra High Gloss Clear Embossing Powder.
To create this cool front border, adhere 2" VLVS! Miracle Tape to the border.  Attach the locking washers and the seed beads.  Coat with Sakura Crystal Lacquer and set to dry over night.
Before doing any thing else distress all the edges with Memento Rich Cocoa ink. Then add the VLVS! STEAMPUNK O-RING TAPE to the creases on the back of the booklet. Try to line them up.

Gather a lot of your favorite Steampunk stamps and Tim Holtz Distress Markers.... Now the stamping begins!

The Keyhole on the front from VLVS! Plate 1387

The first tag has a CLOCK with Bird from VLVS! Plate 1387., the background is stamped with the Nesting Gears. on the fold is the VLVS! STEAMPUNK HINGE TAPE! The Lion with Ring is another stamp from VLVS! Plate 1387, with "Steampunk It!" above.
The tag in second pocket has a balloon from VLVS! Plate 1387!
The Griffin on the diagonal pocket is off of VLVS! Plate 1387 also.  The third tag is the Steampunk Warrior
To get the background color on all of the tags I used a wet paper towel and added color to it with the Stormy Sky Tim Holtz Distress marker.  The areas that were not embossed absorbed the color. All tags were distressed around the edges with Memento Rich Cocoa ink.

The final section is a secret compartment with two brads anchoring a string to keep it closed. VLVS! STEAMPUNK STRAP TAPE as an embellishment.
Open in it an you will find the Victorian Balloon popping off the page.

I hope you enjoyed my Steampunk Booklet!

Steampunk ATC for Swap!

What is a SWAP you ask?  Swaps are organized trading sessions.  Many have a theme. Swaps can be done face to face or through the mail.  If they are done through the mail a host collects all the cards and redistributes them. The host can add rules to the swap as s/he deems necessary.  Like how many to make, must have stamping, at least one embellishment, a mailing deadline just to name a few!
So what is an ATC?  The only steadfast rule to follow when creating an ATC is it MUST measure 2.5” x 3.5” the size of traditional baseball trading cards.  I love trading ATC’s, particularly when the theme is STEAMPUNK.

Currently, I am hosting a STEAMPUNK ATC swap and I just traded the cards among the participants and the envelopes are ready for tomorrows mail.  I got a little carried away with my ATC and made a little book.... THIS is the ATC I made for the swap.  It is a little extravagant... then I had to try out the Hinge Tape.  Have you seen the HINGE TAPE at Viva Las Vegastamps!  Well that is what I used to put my ATC “book” together.
My base card is double the size 5” x 3.5” and folded in the middle.  Then I cut an inside piece 2.5” x 3”.  To attach the middle page I used one hinge from the Viva Las Vegastamps HINGE TAPE.  I carefully cut the excess tape away, leaving only the hinge.  Then very carefully lined it up on the two pieces of card stock and applied the hinge! EASY PEASY!

ALL stamps used on the ATC are from Viva Las Vegastamps!
Front: Victorian Balloon
Inside front: Paris Grunge, only lady from the Steampunk Couple stamp,
Middle page front side: Flying BirdRound Top Bird Cage and “STEAMPUNK IT!”
Middle page back side: “May the Steam be with You!”
Background on all pages: Nesting Gears
Foreground stamped with Stewart Superior Memories Black or Madonna Blue
Backgrounds stamped with Versafine Crimson Red
Papers are from my stash
Victorian Balloon“STEAMPUNK IT!” and “May the Steam be with You!” were stamped on sewing tissue then adhered to the ATC

Shhhh don’t tell anyone I am showing you my ATC  before the swappers get it in the mail!!!
Did you know Viva Las Vegastamps! has a forum?  If you think you would like to try a swap, I have set up a STEAMPUNK SWAP called Lyneen’s Steampunk Swap... the rules are in the forum.  Become a member of the forum and post on my Swap that you would like to join.  You have until May 5th to join and June 1st to mail them! EVERYONE who participates in the swap will get a special ATC made by me!

Now for my Steampunk Tape surprise...

Don’t you think he would look great on a kids party invitation?????
THE SKY IS THE LIMIT... CREATE with tape!!

New TAPE!!!

Have you guys seen the new tape that VLVS! is carrying.. EXCLUSIVELY?!

it's pretty amazing stuff.. they have four kinds..

and...

I have the pleasure of owning ALL FOUR tapes -- and get to show you today a project I made with the Strap tape!!!

I also used a selection of VLVS! Rubber stamps from the POSTAL section of rubber including the:

and the:

among others... I also used Memento Tuxedo black ink for my stamps and Miracle tape to secure my Echo Park paper down.

It's a great little piece to give someone going away or to someone who travels a lot! Be on the lookout for more examples of this fab tape from the DT (and I'll be back with more, too!) -DeeDee
