Make Art Now - Art Journal Page by Elisa Ablett

Hi Crafters,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest inspiration for you for the month of June.

Halfway through this crazy year already!

Who else has been crafting and creating more during the last 5 months with all that's happening in the world? I find creating therapeutic from the stresses of everyday life and found a bit of solace in my craft room during quarantine.

I thought I would create an Art Journal page featuring the paint brush from Cat Kerr and all the lovely grungy marks from Plate 1455 to document my love of art.

Here are a few close ups, the page features a background I made using photo paper and watercolour inks plus a gel print from my stash.

I have included a list and photos of the Viva products I used below:-

Plate 1455Make Art Now 1 1/4 x 1

Other Products:

Photo Paper
Colour Blast Artists Inks
Dina Wakely Acrylic Paint & Washi Tape

I'm a Flamingo - Art Journal page by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest inspiration for you, a tropical art journal page with grunge!

I wanted to create something bright and fun during these uncertain times and what better way then to break open the 'lawn flamingo' and 'ethos sunrise by Tina Walker' stamp to create a tropical sunrise with a great message.

Let's take a closer look at the finer details.

I hand stamped and coloured the 'Flamingo' and 'Lilies' with water colour brush pens and added fine details with fine tip markers.

I used a brayer to add acrylic paint to the awesome 'Ethos Sunrise stamp' by Tina Walker and then once dry fussy cut the stamp out and tucked it behind the Lilies.

Let's take a look at all the wonderful Viva Las VegaStamp goodness that I used to create this page;-

Mixed Media Tag by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest VLVStamps inspiration for you.

I ordered the Tina Walker Scribble Girl plate a little while ago and couldn't wait to try them out with a lovely colourful background.

I started with a gel plate print on my tag and added layer of inks, stenciling and stamping in tropical colours.

I then stamped Scribble Girl with Earrings stamp on deli paper, fussy cut the image out and added a smidge of colour to her earrings and cheeks using a fine paint brush.

To finish off the tag I added black water soluble crayon to the edges of the deli paper image and added some water to smudge the edging creating shadows and depth.

Let's take a look at the products used from Viva Las VegaStamps website:-

'HIDE & SEEK World Champion' by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

My turn up on the blog today with my latest project for Viva Las VegaStamps! a fun mixed media tag featuring a couple of the New Release stamps.

To start my project I created a rust effect on my background tag using Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and Chunky Rust Embossing Powder and Walnut Ink. I also smoothed Patina Matte Wax over the textured areas.

I also stamped the Binder Clip and Sasquatch in Versafine Ink in Sepia and Black and coloured the stamps with Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks.

To create the Tree background, I used Mustard Seed Distress Ink on a white cardstock. Then stamped the Tree with no leaves stamp over the top. Next you trim your Tree Background to fit behind the polaroid frame die cut.

Next you assemble your tag by adhering with glue and also 3D foam mounting tape. I printed the funny quote from my computer onto cardstock and glued to my frame.

Here are the links to the shop and products used.

I'm not insane...by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with the first of my creations for March, a colourful card/journal page with some interesting mixed media techniques!

Let's take a closer look before we start the step by step tutorial..

Here are some of the great stamps I used to create my project by Viva Las VegaStamps:

I'm Not Insane 1 3/4 x 1 1/2Musical Note (Calligraphy) 1 1/4 x 1 1/4

Step by Step Tutorial:

First step is stamping onto a sheet of Acetate, I use Staz on black ink and I tap the ink over and onto the large background stamp and not the other way around. I ease the stamp over the top of the Acetate and press gently, you don't want to press down to hard onto the Acetate.

The next few steps cover making your background with Alcohol inks and pure Alcohol of 96% or more which I purchased from the Pharmacy and distilled into a Fineline Applicator bottle.

Using a paint palette, squeeze a few drops of your desired Alcohol ink colours into your palette, then squeeze a fine line of your pure alcohol onto your yupo paper down the bottom like the first photo. The add your colour using a paint brush. Repeat with your different colours, you can also add more 'cells' to the background by squirting with your pure alcohol. Work in a ventilated area!

If you want to blend the straight lines a bit, while you have the alcohol on the page tip the paper up and back to make the colours blend a bit.

Using a distress tool and once your background is dry, ink gently around the edges of your background. Stamp your musical notes and title onto cardstock.

Using distress oxide ink pads, smoosh your favourite colours onto a craft messy mat and spritz with water and dip your white cardstock into the different colours spritzing the cardstock as well to create the oxidising effect on the paper.

Once dry, stamp your Banksy Wall Singer stamp using Black Archival ink over the top of your background. Also stamp your stamp onto white cardstock.

Fussy cut your two Banksy Wall Singer stamped images, then cut a few pieces off the coloured stamped image and using 3d foam mounting tape, stick them over the top (don't forget to line them up).

Attach your stamped acetate, I used staples and then adhere your black and white stamped image on the left hand side of your card/journal page. I then also cut a few of the coloured off cuts and adhered them so they continued up above the stamped image.

Then adhere your fussy cut musical notes and title to your page and some last minute edging with a fine black marker and you are done!
