Fly

I am so ready for some warm spring weather!!!
Michele here today and I have noticed that all of my projects lately are inspired by SPRING.
Today I have a little home decor piece featuring the Deathhead Moth image.

I also have a short tutorial on mirror image stamping.  I wanted to have the image on both sides of my piece!

I stamped the moth on a piece of watercolor paper.

Sprinkled some Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder on it and heat embossed.

Next I used a clear silicone stamp with the image down.

You need the flat side up so you can stamp on it.

Stamp the moth on the flat silicone.

Stamp on the watercolor paper and emboss.

Next I cut both of the image out...

So they could be glued together back to back.

The ideolgy pins are perfect to hold the moth.

The base is an Ideolgy finial stained with Distress stain.  I used wodden beads to spell fly and wired them on the finial.

Some pretty pearl beads are added to the pin.

Come on SPRING!!  Let's FLY!

Until next time...get inky!

Mail Art Monday with Fiona

Hello VLVS peeps! Fiona here with you today to share a little bit of mail art with you!

I don't know how ..... but I keep making purple things lately!! I don't even LIKE purple. maybe that's the thing ...... maybe the universe is secretly trying to train my brain to think purple is cool!!!

Well regardless of what I think ..... the mail art is purple ...ish. With a sprinkling of pink and yellow. It doesn't look THAT bad. Luckily the stamps are SO cool.

I popped a layer of gesso underneath so that the watercolours I used would give a cool effect on the paper that wasn't covered by the gesso. Then i sprinkled some pigment powders over the top and sprayed with water!! I love the final effect!

Thank you popping by .... I'll see you all again soon xx

From the Desk of Cheetarah

Hey everyone, I'm back this week on the VLVS! blog with a little tutorial for you to personalize your store bought postcards. I love buying and sending postcards and have a stack of them to send out, but what really irks me a lot about postcards, sometimes there is no address placement lines or message box on the back.

As you can see with the Monet Art postcard here, the back is totally blank and boring. So what I did to help brighten these up is to decorate sheets of blank sticker paper that are already cut into 4 A5 (postcard) size in a mail art theme.

I used all these wonderful mail art related stamps from Viva LasVegaStamps! and Memento rubber stamp inks. The stamps I used are listed below.

I started off with deviding each section into two and use the stitches stamp for the address lines and divider border. Using a stamp placement tool and ruler helps this process along.

When you got the lines in place you can start to stamp up the top left side with those fun mail art stamps with some colorful inks. I esp. love to combine that ATC postcard collage stamps on the background to help that handwritten feel going.

This cute little postoid stamp is a great way to add some "faux postage" to the right side of your card.

When you're satisfied with the way you decorated the section, you can adhere the sticker sheet on to the back of your postcard. Doesn't it look a lot more fun this way?  You can create a whole bunch of these in no time and adhere them when you are ready send off a PC or stick it on the back of one of your own created postcards!

This happy bunch was mailed out recently and it definitely makes the back of the PC just as interesting as the front :)

The road not taken

Hello everyone,

I have an art journal page to share with you today. I've had this elephant in my stash forever and I thought it was time to get him out ! I think he enjoyed his walk ! lol

The base is a gelli print I made earlier and on top of that I added some stamping and stencilling. The elephants were stamped on separate white paper and cut out. I adhered them behind each other on the page as if they were following each other. The bird is a Sandpiper with very long legs and beak which I cut off to make him into something else... lol

I have used the following stamps:

Thank you so much for stopping by today !!

At Home on Mail Art Monday

Hello Again!

Today I am here to share some more fun and easy
Mail art Monday inspiration.

This piece is actually a special one for me, because I was challenged by a friend (Freezeframe03)  to use my large chevron stamp on an envelope in a new way...
So, I chose to go a sort of cart Journal-ish route...

Stamps used:

To start I stamped my writing chevron on a pre-painted piece of paper I had laying on my desk. I created a mask to mask of the chevron then stamped the numbers to create a sort of house like shape. To finish off the "house" shape, I stamped the equal sign as a door then used a pen to draw some scribble outlines. (Then I cut it out)

To create the Envelope base I began with a plain white A2 envelope. I stamped my doodle frame on the bottom to look like bushes. I used a scrap of cardstock to create a address block, then stamped the various staples.  I masked off my address block and doodle frames then used Tim Holtz Distress ink in salty ocean to add my base layer of color for the envelope.

(I did not glue the house down until the end)

I used various green markers to color in the "bushes", then re-masked everything off. I used more of the salty ocean ink to stamp the numbers in the background as well as a touch of cracked pistachio.
I also used punchinella waste as a stencil to ink layered dots to add extra depth to the background (using the same 2 colors as for the numbers).

So, there you have it...
Nice and Easy!

If you have a bigger envelope this would be great to add a few Alice in wonderland characters...
(Or anything really, the sky is the limit!)

Happy Stamping!

Doodle Tag with Shanna

Hello to all you stampers out there! Shanna here today with a quick fun tag! I was inspired by so many things to create this and I had a blast.

I was inspired by a gelli print I made with my gelli plate. There are tons and tons of videos out there but my favorite which helped me break out of my fear of messing up was a class DeeDee did for Artist Live.  Check it out here!

So I went to making a bunch of prints and this one stuck out to me. Interested in watching how I created it then relax and watch the video!

Here are some close ups of the finished tag.

Faceoff

Hello friends!!
Michele here today and I am sharing a little peek at a collaboration project I am working on with my good friend Tina.  We are making 4"x4" books all about...you guessed it, FACES.
Today I would like to share 2 of the pages of my 10 page book that I created using some fantastic Viva Las VegaStamps! images.

Here is the first one:

I stamped the face on tissue and applied to my stamped and painted background with gel medium.

She is colored with watercolor pencils and distress crayons.

I drew and paintd hair around the face with a stabilo pencil, distress crayon and watercolor pencil.

And now the second page:

The faces stamp is embossed with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.

The background is distress oxide ink.

A little color on the lips with distress crayons.

I hope you enjoyed my little peek and are inspired to use stamping as a start to a drawing or painting yourself.  It is the perfect jumping off point!

Until next time...get inky!!
