Mail Art Monday with Fiona

Hello VLVS peeps! Fiona here with you today to share a little bit of mail art with you!

I don't know how ..... but I keep making purple things lately!! I don't even LIKE purple. maybe that's the thing ...... maybe the universe is secretly trying to train my brain to think purple is cool!!!

Well regardless of what I think ..... the mail art is purple ...ish. With a sprinkling of pink and yellow. It doesn't look THAT bad. Luckily the stamps are SO cool.

I popped a layer of gesso underneath so that the watercolours I used would give a cool effect on the paper that wasn't covered by the gesso. Then i sprinkled some pigment powders over the top and sprayed with water!! I love the final effect!

Abstract Art Journal Page

Hello VLVS peeps! Fiona here with you today to share a little art journal page I have been working on. I have been inspired to create some abstract journal pages recently and the best addition to these pages are the amazing Viva Las Vegastamps!

My process ....... there is no process!!

Well that's not 100% true because I do always start by choosing my colors and then add them randomly to my page (with my fingers).

For me at the moment it is all about the layers. So after I add some color, I add some white gesso to fill the gaps and blend it all together and then I'll add some black to add contrast.

I am obsessed with circles at the present moment so everything I make has circles on it! The Doodle circle stamp is my ABSOLUTE favorite stamp to use on a journal page.

After a lot of adding and covering and scribbling with a pencil and then scribbling some more with a pen, I finally get to a point where I will add some stamping.

With this particular page I've also added some old stamps. I find ephemera so interesting and I love to use it as inspiration for my projects.

I hope you've enjoyed my art journal page and sort of understand the process not process that I follow!!

See you again soon xx

Let's get lost in unknown destination

Hello my dear crafty friends and welcome to first VLVS post in September.
Irit is here and this time I decided to make a journal page again (so what if it's not in my journal? I can always glue it into with a drop of a good glue, like a few strips of VLVS Miracle tape); it's just easier to make those art pages separately.
As you know any art journal page needs  it's title. So first thing I picked my titles from my VLVS stamps collection (not as big with sentiments as I want, but yet I can manage ). So my title as picked is Destination Unknown and as the extra words I added Let's get lost, Discover and Explore.
The next step was  to pick the color scheme and I decided on reds and blues with a bit of coppers.
The whole page was built around the couple- they can be a family, friends or just random people around who are moving somewhere, but yet not sure about the  destination.
Each image was stamped with clear embossing ink (I used VersaMark as that's what I have, but any clear ink is perfect); then I heat embossed each stamped image with coordinating embossing powder: red, blue, copper and black. The heat embossed background is misted and inked with distress inks. I usually begin with mists and if the coverage is not sufficient I add inks and more mists.

My favortie background stamps were used to make the background:
Cracked background,Solid color wheel, Color wheel lines, Torn paper and Postal background.

I hope you liked my art piece.

Little Girl - Bodacious Background

This is the beginning of an accordion book that will mix VLVS images and collage.  Also, Gelly Roll Pens accent various parts to accent the images.

VLVS images:

Doilies: Medium, Small - 18846, 18845
Dots from December Daily Sheet - 1430
Writing Arrow - 19078
Word, Discover -  19024

Miracle Tape

1.  Protect your surface with paper, and paper inside the accordion book so only the front cover will be colored.
2.  Use your favortie spray paints and spray randomingly on cover, overlapping colors slightly.  Pat with scrunched paper towel to add texture and remove excess color puddles.
3.   Doilies stamp all but largest right on the book with coordinating color.  Stamp large doily on blue paper, cut, and adhere.
4.  Cut and collage girl.   Stamp and cut out arrow and adhere.  Stamp, cut and adhere word discover.
5.  Accent various areas with Gelly Roll Pens (Sakura of America).   Adds lots of texture and dimension.

Mix color themes, use complimentary colors (colors that are across from each other on the color wheel).  Have fun playing with accents using the gel pens.  Mix collage images with rubber stamps.
