Roses and Rocks.

Hello, Mary here :-)   I thought it fitting, with all the fabulous January birthdays out there, that I bring you a little stamped jewelry/card combo---perfect for gifting on birthdays or any days!

This card was super simple.  I just stamped the lovely Rose image onto watercolor paper and dropped a bit of Lindy's Stamp Gang spray mist onto it to add some color.  I then layered vellum and some Gauche Alchemy ephemera under the image and it was ready to stick down.

The base of my card is rockin' more of the Cross Stitch (my FAVE!!) stamping to add a little texture to my background.  A splatter of glitter and a pretty ribbon embellishment later, and my card was ready for givin'!

This necklace is another of my stamped paper clay creations and I absolutely LOVE how rustic it looks.  I just free-formed a heart from a small portion of paper clay and stamped into it with one of the super versatile cloud images from Plate 910A.  I think it adds prettiest swirly pattern, and you'd never know it was a cloud stamp!  Just a bit more Lindy's spray mist and some hardware finishes the piece.  Together, I think this combo makes for one HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Thanks so much for joining me today, and I'll see ya next time!!

xx Mary

Aliens and Organizers.

Hello :-)  It's Mary joining you today to share a little VLVS 'stampin' love' in the form of a brand new organizer---ready to help me stay on track this year!!

It all started with an old book cover...

The aged look of this cover was far too pretty to cover completely, so I chose to use only a single focal embellishment.

I created a freeform heart from paper clay and stamped into it with my all-time favorite stamp lately, Cross Stitch.  White paint and some Lindy's Stamp Gang spray mist gave some fabulously bright color,  while a bit of black paint brought out the amazing texture the stamp left in the clay.

The inside cover was rockin' some amazing handwriting from the original owner, so I opted to keep it simple with more misting and a single image.

How amazing is the Alien Circle stamp??  I think it adds a bit of mystery a la Area 51!

The divider pages were collaged with ephemera from Gauche Alchemy and some patterned paper from the 'ol scrap bin with a thin coat of white paint to unify everything.  I've repeated the Alien Circle and Cross Stitch stamps using Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder and Staze-On black ink.  A bit more spray misting and she was finished!!

I absolutely adore mixing stamped stitching with the real deal!

I gotta say, I'm super happy with how it came out.  All that 'stampin'-stitchin'-painty' goodness is the perfect combo of function meets fab!

Ok guys, that's it for me.  Thanks so much for joining me today, and I'll see ya soon!!

xx Mary

Favorite Fall Jacket {12x12 by DeeDee}

Hi everyone! DeeDee here today sharing a 12x12 layout that was featured in Paper Haus eMag recently.

Even here in Vegas we get to wear jackets in the fall, it does get pretty chilly when the sun goes down during the coldest parts of the year! My kidzilla got to pick out his own jacket last fall, and it quickly became his favorite one. So here's "Favorite Fall Jacket" in layout form! The paper base is Echo Park's chalkboard paper, and the wood grain is by My Mind's Eye.

You can see really well in this photograph the Large Light bulb stamp in Archival ink by Ranger The buttons are also My Mind's Eye, the stars are from an UmWowStudio mask (Star Confetti) using Sakura Of America Microns, and the black drops are Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Charcoal.

I've paired the Sakura of America Microns (Through the UmWowStudio Star Confetti Mask) with the Star Pin stamp and I'm really digging it! Super stark contrast between the pen doodle and the stamped image. The washi tape is from Gauche Alchemy, the chip from UmWowStudio, the black alphas are from Michaels and the wood alphas are American Crafts. Other supplies seen above : May Arts twine, Dymo label maker.

Colonel Mustard {Tag Make n Take}

Hi folks! DeeDee here today :)

There's a local crop by the Scrap Society every four months and we've been lucky enough to get on board as a sponsor. We do a make n take and bring some of our wares to peddle. It's great to get better connected with the community and share our love of rubber stamping with a wide audience.

Well they just had a crop this past weekend and I wanted to share the tag we did as our make n take! They always center their crops around a theme, and last weekend's was the game "Clue." So I put together a sort of funny whimsical take on Colonel Mustard!

We started with a cream colored tag of Bazzill Cardstock. It was stamped in Distress Marker with the Bingo Card Background and the edges of the tag were distressed with Walnut Stain distress ink.  The next layer is made of the Pointed Pen Tip stamped in Archival ink by Ranger, an UmWowStudio star confetti mask, Gauche Alchemy washi tape, Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels and the Whimsical Man With Whip also in archival ink.

To finish the tag I balled up some black thread (Thanks for the technique, Amy!), fussy cut our new Admit One Ticket and glued down a Geo Tag from UmWowStudio's Arrow Confetti pack.

My Shutterbug {A layout}

Hi Everyone! :) :)

I've been really busy networking and spreading the VLVS! love around. One of the ways is by being a contributor to an online magazine called Paper Haus. We've also been regularly taking ads out in Paper Haus -- they focus largely on layouts, cards and tags, but venture out occasionally as well!

Here is a layout that appeared in the Spring 2013 issue:

The base of the layout a white corrugated cardboard and a layer of My Mind's Eye paper. There's some gorgeous Gauche Alchemy washi tape at the bottom and the  background is a mix of glimmer mists by Tattered Angels. But what really sets the mood of the layout is the Bellows Camera by VLVS! stamped twice above the photo. It really ties everything together and gives the layout a "theme". It's been stamped in an archival black ink so that the mists and splatters don't make the image bleed. I finished it off with a date a scatter of epoxy brads, floral beads, and e beads.

Steamy Valentine with Chamomile Tea and May Arts

Hi everyone! I'm sharing with you a fun ATC that I've made with the charming steampunk stamp Chamomile Tea. I love Brian Kensinger's drawings as they lend themselves to several coloring options...today I chose to watercolor her on a piece of antique book paper.
For this project you will need :
corrugated cardboard ATC Blank--painted and inked and embossed.
Punchinella from Guache Alchemy
Handmade Washi Tape using VLVS!, Miracle Tape and tissue paper
May Arts Ribbon
Distress Stain, Paris Trunk Ink
Book Paper, foil metal trinkets, feather and bling

I stamped Chamomile Tea onto the book paper with the Paris Trunk Ink in Black and embossed her with the Ultra High Gloss Emboss Enamel. This helps to keep most of the watercolor where it needs to be. I layered her onto of a prepared ATC base with some additional layers of homemade Washi tape and punchinella. I finished her off with a hand stamped ribbon from May Arts, trinkets, bling and a feather. Thank you for looking!
The May Arts Ribbon used in this project was originally white. I colored it quickly with Distress Stain and dried it lightly. Take care with the heat tool because this man-made fiber will crinkle--a process that I used once it was stamped. I then used my Black Paris Trunk Ink to stamp gears onto the ribbon. I set it aside to dry but if you are in a rush, again heat set gently. Once the ribbon was tied onto the ATC, I zapped it closer with the heat tool to get the ribbon to crinkle as seen in the final ATC.
I hope you enjoy my ATC! ~leslierahye

A VLVS! Inspired Layout

Hey all :) DeeDee here filling in! Today I'm sharing the full reveal of the sneak peek I hinted with recently.

I've since worked up a different project for the swap so I can now share with you the full layout!

I really have a ridiculous huge love for rubber stamps and use them on e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.! Including scrapbook pages :)

Sometimes I frequent back to the same stamps... when they're good they're good right? Like
the Pen tips
the Pointed pen tip, and

But sometimes I get creative and use a stamp I normally wouldn't... in this case I used the Arrow to create a chevron pattern to the right of my layout. I just laid down a piece of paper as a mask along the right edge. Then inked my stamp in archival black and stamped along the edge of the paper and onto my layout background!

Other supplies include: May Arts ribbon in ivory and black stripe. Recycled cardboard, Tim Holtz Tag and bookplate die, Basic Grey epoxy brad, Prima canvas resist flowers, Ranger Archival Ink, vintage buttons and pearls, paper clips, faux stamen, a sewing machine and black thread, Creative Imaginations Stencil, Luminarte Silks in Solar Gold, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Roll top desk, MM eyelets, Gauche Alchemy Punchinella, Distress Inks in Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo.

As part of this month long event...Viva Las Vegastamps! and Clairefontaine are hosting a contest this month--comment on all the Clairefontaine posts throughout the month to get a chance at a free journal and a $15 coupon to the VLVS! online store! Great prize!! Good luck!! Remember, you can't win if you don't enter!!!  So be sure to check out everyone on the DT's journal pages!

The journal is about 12  long by 8 1/2 wide. The cover is clear. It does have a band closure. The paper in the  journal is a drawing paper with a 85lb weight to it. The paper has a good thickness to it, so I was wondering how it will hold up with what I do. I've worked in journals of all sizes. And each one takes a bit to get use to. I'm getting use to this one too.I did 3 pages of the journal. I'm going to show 2 that I completed.

I just got my Summer Distress ink pads when I got the journal. So I took each of the 3 colors and swiped it on a different page. I then took some water and a brushed and applied water on the page to spread the ink.
The last color I did was the Salty Ocean. And that was the first page I worked on. Right after I put water on the page I put some rock salt down on the page. I let it air dried a bit before I used the heat gun to speed up the drying process. I shook the salt off, and got a cool effect. I stamped the Water Drop Background using the same ink pad. I stamped too much of it, to my liking. so I took out the brush with water and brushed the page. And tried it again with the rock salt. I then stamped the Water Drop Background again. and like it much better.

I then stamped some of the 2 of the kayak stamps I have and the 2 girls on boat stamp. Colored them with Prismas color pencils. I wanted a vacation quote, I looked at brainery.com and found one. Went into word and type the quote 3 different fonts. Cut the words out and glued them on the page. I added some more of the blue color to the word to blend in the page. The page needed something else, I used some punchinella as a stencil and some white paint on the page.

Items used:
Salty Ocean Distress ink
white cardstock
prisma color pencils
white craft paint
punchenilla
rock salt
water

Stamps used:

This is the second page I did. This page I used the Picked Raspberry distress ink. I then spritz some sprays on to the page and let it drip down. I then used some of the punchinella from the Gauche Alchemy kit in pink, white and black craft paints. The woman was from the vintage sears catalog that was in my kit. I did color her up a bit with color pencils. I took a piece of Kromecote and brayered  the same ink color that was on the page. I spritz it with some water  for some texture. The stamp I used is I read recpies the same  on black memento inkpad. I cut the words apart and glued them on the page with glossy accents. I did go around the edges with marker.

Items used:
Picked Raspberry distress ink
Black, Pink, and white Craft paints
Various punchinella
pink and black spray
