DREAM BIG - by Fran Chalmers

Hi everyone - and Merry Christmas!

Today I have made a postcard using the lovely unicorn stamp!

First I made the background.  I wanted it to be fairly dark so I blended distress inks in Uncharted Mariner and Villainous Potion, leaving the middle lighter.

I then stamped the edges with the tree branches - I used Versafine Fantasia because I didn't want it to be black ink.

I stamped the unicorn onto thick card and coloured it with copic pens, just for some shading.

I stuck the unicorn onto the postcard, then stamped the plants over the top.

I used a moon mask to make a moon behind the unicorn's head, and went round the edges with a white pastel pencil to give it some definition.

I stamped and embossed the sentiment in white, and made some dots as stars with a white gel pen.

Lastly, I used a white gel pen to make some rough marks on the plants, to represent the light from the moon

I love the contrast of the white and blue together.

Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black

That's all folks! See you in 2023 :)

Index card - Dream big

Hey everyone,

This will be the last index card for this year I'm sharing as we are in the middle of the last ICAD week. The weekly theme I'm following is all about music.

I did some grungy layering of acrylic paints for the background until I liked it and then stamped some sheet music on top.

The astonished boy looks a little like he could be singing, don't you think? So I chose him as my focal point. I stamped him on a piece of watercolor paper, colored him and cut him out.

I also glued down a few strips of sheet music and blended it in with more acrylic paint and some splatters. After drying everything really well (and still it hasn't been completely dry) I heatembossed the words "dream big" onto the card to finish it.

Stamps used:
Sheet Music Background (19557)
Astonished Boy (1061)
Dream Big (19047)

Other material:
- index card (3 x 5 inch)
- Canson watercolor paper
- Versafine Claire Ink (nocturne)
- Lukas acrylic paints (prussian blue, mauve, sand)
- ZIG watercolor brush pens
- sheet music

See you soon!

"Dream Big" Art Journal Page | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!
Sue Plumb here to share my latest VLVS design team project with you. Today I am sharing a whimsical style art journal page that I created called "Dream Big".

I used a range of stamps to create this page, with the feature being (of course) that gorgeous Unicorn. The majority of the stamps I used come from plate #918 and plate #1437.
(For a full linked list of stamps, please see end of post.)

In addition to the VLVS stamps, this page used fairly limited supplies - Ranger Distress Oxides; a Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Brush Marker; and a Stabilo All pencil.

I love the "painted" look that stamping with Distress Oxides gives, especially when layered over the soft, blended background.

If you would like to see how I created this page, there is a process video available on the Viva Las VegaStamps YouTube channel:

VLVS stamps used:
- Unicorn
- Dandelion Silhouette
- Flower Border
- Flower Book Plate

- I hate reality
- Bursting Stars
- Sky of Stars Background

Other materials:
- Jane Davenport art journal
- Ranger Distress Oxides
- Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Brush Marker (clear)
- Stabilo All pencil (black)

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this, I hope I have inspired you to get inky too!

Dream Big - ATB Tutorial

Hi my dear Viva Las VegaStamps! Friends.
I am totally a mixed media fan and I always incorporate my mood or something I want to say when I am creating. Dream Big is a mixed media Artist Trading Block (ATB) that should visualize my creative mojo. I am full of ideas (see the big head) and this does not stop! It would be great if the day would have 48hours or if I'd have six arms!
The ATB base is cut with the Silhouette Cameo. Of course you don't need a cutting machine to build a cube. You will find templates online to cut one by hand or you can use a die with your cutting machine.
I used the gorgeous Whimsical Moon Face and Whimsical Beetle Man stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps! as my main images.

Here are the step by step instructions:

1. Prepare your stuff. Cut the blank of the block. Emboss some black cardstock with an embossing folder of your choice. Stamp your main images and the acetate with StazOn Jet Black Ink.

2. Add Turquoise Iridescent Creative Medium with a palette knife and a stencil to the side of the cube that will be the top. You can use any other texture paste. I like the shimmer of the Creative Medium.
Tip: Use some washi tape to mask the border and to adhere the stencil to your working surface.

3. Use the Gold Metallic Creative Medium with a make up sponge and rub it onto your embossed cardstock. You can also use PanPastels metallic colors. Cut out four squares which have the same size as an area of your ATB and adhere them to it's sides.

4. Color your main images. I used my Memento Luxe inks. You can use any other ink. E.g. Distress Inks or watercolor pencils. Add some highlights with the Irresistible Pico Embellishers. I used them for the bugs feet, the white dots in the moon's face and the stars on it's top.

5. Cut the gears from kraft cardstock and give them some gold glamour with the Gold Metallic Creative Medium.

6. Build everything together and add the sentiment. I stamped it with StazOn Jet Black ink and cut it with a banner die. Use a cutter to make two slots to glue in the gears. Adhere the transparency sheet with some Miracle Tape to the back.

Big Pants!

My last post for this term.  It has been the most fun, wild ride with VLVS!!!  I adore VLVS and will be a part of it no matter if I'm back on the DT or not!

This art is dedicated to Wayne Gartley  who opened Viva Las Vegastamps in 1991.  Jeff his nephew and our DT Leader DeeDee, now are at the helm running the show!  Wayne is still around adding input and causing mischief ha ha!!

It was Wayne who helped me with the image above, the Man Losing Weight.  I had asked about a certain person I wanted in rubber, and he directed me to this guy.  This image made me laugh and filled the bill (ha ha) wonderfully.

After finding the image, I ran across several word stamps that added to a risque' - tongue n' cheek art.  Wayne has a wicked sense of humor.

Dream Big, is more inspirational as word art, however, I chose to make a puny statement.  The man is wishing for something he doesn't have.  The other word art, It's Bigger on the Inside, is off kilter, and adds to the off color sentiment.    I also wanted to add "You'te Going to Put That, Where?" but will have to save it for another piece of artwork.  I continually use the Washi Tape Backgrounds (Hexagon this time and grid) to add stamped effects on my backgrounds!

Splatter, stencil, layering, and embellishments create this piece.  UmWow Studio Chipboard adds the perfect embelllishing touch!!

There are more sayings that can be added, this image of the man is priceless!  I plan to use him many times!

Thanks Wayne!!!

Note:  As of  6-18-2013, I made it to another term!!!  I am so Happy!!!
