Ray of Sunshine | Sue Plumb

Sue Plumb here with my latest design team project with you. Today I have a 12x12" mixed media scrapbook page I created to share, featuring a stamp-filled background and a photo of my daughter at her sunshiney best! haha

To create my page, I started with some white cardstock (I use Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock in 'Marshmallow' - I find this best for applying wet media.) I added a wash of grey colour using Colour Blast 'Stormy Weather' Colour Shimmer Spray, which I poured into a cup and applied with a wide brush.

I needed to give my page some structure (and given the theme of this page was about capturing photos) I used the Film Strip stamp to apply some horizontal and vertical lines to draw the eye to the focal area of my page using Staz On ink.

I wanted to add a supporting focal image to compliment my photo, so I chose the Whimsical Horned Boy. I already had this image stamped out on some tissue paper, so I used some matte medium to apply it to my page.

I kept building my background by stamping the Evidence Label stamp near the top of my page (I can see this stamp is going to get a workout from me); and then I added two Deathhead Moths (they matched the death stare my daughter was giving me). I also had these on tissue paper, so I used matte medium again to apply them.

My background was really starting to take shape now, so it was time to add some finer details. I reached for my Sky of Stars Background stamp to add some visual interest around the page. My page also needed a title and I knew EXACTLY which stamp I wanted to use for it - I Am A Ray. I stamped it out multiple times around my page (just to make sure I got the message across!)

Now it was time to add a splash of colour to my page. I used a Faber-Castell watercolour pencil to add some red around the edges of my moths, as well as to the cheek and lips of my horned boy before blending it out with a water brush.

I also added a couple of scribbles that I didn't blend.

Now it was time to work on the focal area of my page and add some texture. I used a mini paper doily; torn tissue paper; some tiny gold star punchinella and frayed gauze to create a mat for my photo. 

I cut around my daughter in the photo to get rid of the background and added some cardboard to the back to pop it up before adding it on top of my layers using Miracle Tape. I also added some extra gold touches to my page using torn pieces of washi tape and gold sequins. 

I added some small splatters of Colour Blast 'Sunburnt' Colour Artist Ink and then my handwritten journalling. I complimented my journalling with the What We Have Here stamp. (A perfect finishing touch!)

The final addition to my page was a handmade chevron embellishment from Charms Creations, to help draw the eye to my photo.

Mail Art Monday!

Hello Crafty friends,

Majo here to show you another creation for our Monday theme ....

 

I stamped my image on the envelope and a second time on a piece of scrap paper for masking. I added the flower stamps.

I colored the background with PanPastels in lime green and violet and gave it some texture with stamps in an coordinating color.

I stamped the sentiment and cut it apart, covered the "Warning!" with washi tape before inking and adhered the sentiment with Miracle Tape to the envelope.

I colored parts of the flowers with a Koh-I-Noor pencil

I stamped and cut the wings and colored them with pencils . As a highlight I added some golden mousse from Tonic Studios.

This is how very happy and confident a guy can look with wings ... LOL

How about some new challenge inspiration??!!!

This is May's challenge inspiration, great huh?

I took inspiration from the color combination and the Star Wars images.

Stamps used:  Banksy Storm Trooper Stop Wars, Brick Background, Stop Me Before I Paint Again.

I used Brusho powdered watercolor for the background and started stamping.
This sentiment is stamped archival ink and Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder.

A troop of Troopers!!!  With the leader embossed too!  Lots of fussy cutting and layers create our troop.

A little Banksy to start the month of May, ahhhhh...

Mail Art Monday!

Mail Art Monday Envelope <3

 

If you know me, then you know mail art is my favorite thing to create! So, I am excited to get to share with you today! I decided to break the rules a bit with this envelope... Who says the envelope has to go long ways anyway? 

Stamps Used:

A2 white envelope

distress ink (various yellows)

Archival ink (black)

Zig Clean color markers

I started by stamping the "bust of a man" on the right hand side of the envelope and again on a scrap piece of paper which I used to mask this off.  

Next I stamped the lower left part of the "flower and bird frame" stamp 

(yes, I cut my stamp apart... part of why I love buying my stamps unmounted. I know some of you will want to kill me for this, but it gets me extra use from my stamps... You could also mask that part of your stamp off when inking.) 

I then stamped the right side of "flower and bird frame" stamp. At this point I inked around the boarder of my envelope with the various yellows. 

Once my background was inked, I removed my Statue mask and begin to color all of the fine details. 

Super quick and easy!

Below you can see a "sample" address, and postage stamp... I am out of flower stamps so a trip to the post office is in my future ;-)

Elina with you today, sharing with you my latest project; an envelope for our Mail Art Monday!

Oh, how I love creating mail art envelopes! This time I wanted to play with colors, and to create an envelope that would for sure bring a smile to it's receiver's face. I think that the adorable Creepy Creatures by Leslie Wood were just the right choice for the project!

For decorating the envelope I used the easy masking stamping technique: In this technique you start with stamping first the images you want to appear on top. Then you continue working towards the back, masking the already stamped images before stamping the next layer. For creating the masks you can use special sticky masking paper, but simple fuzzy cut post it notes work very well, too.

For the layered leaf background I used green Memento ink. Black stamping ink would have made the background too busy, allowing the main images to disappear into it.

Before starting the coloring with my Promarkers, I placed a few sheets of scrap paper into the envelope which blocked the colors from messing up the back of the envelope.

Inspiration for the striped frame I got from the cute striped Creature's socks and shirt :)

"#EPIC" scrapbook layout | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project; and today I have a mixed media scrapbook layout to show you. This page features a photo of my daughter when she first got her new tablet and her very own version of Minecraft for Christmas. (To say she was excited is an understatement.) 

For my layout, I wanted to create a background that reflected the theme and the colours that were depicted in my photo. I decided to use the Overlapping Squares stamp (designed by Corrie Herriman) and stamp out a pattern on my page that I could then colour to suit.

I used Staz On ink as I knew that I would be using a wet medium and didn't want it to run at all.

I then used Faber-Castell watercolour pencils to add splashes of colour to the squares, before blending the pencil out with a water pen.

Once the squares were coloured, I also used the pencils to add some shading around and between some of them.

Next, I wanted to add some less structured marks to balance out all the hard lines from the squares, so I used the Crackle Background stamp to add some random, organic lines. (I keep my stamps unmounted for exactly this reason - I like to be able to bend them and manipulate them to only use small areas of the stamps surface.)

I then used the It's Only a Hobby stamp to add a few phrases to my background; before using a Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Spray to add some random splatters around my page.

With the background complete, it was time to add some papery layers to my page. I used some patterned paper pieces from Amy Tan; along with some Project Life cards and a paper doily to create a mat for my photo and then adhered it to my page using Miracle Tape.

I added some scrap cardboard to the back of my photo to pop it up from the page; then added the word woohoo (fussy cut from another Project Life card) using foam tape on top.

For my title I used a wood veneer word from D-lish Scraps, which I coloured using Posca pens.

To finish off my page I added a Charms Creations handmade heart embellishment topped with a flair button from D-lish Scraps.
