Dangerous Halloween Treat Box

Hi my dear Viva Las VegaStamps! Friends.

Three Days left until Halloween and I'd like to share a spooky treat box today. It's perfect for some goodies and it can be used as a little lantern where you add a LED light.
The box is cut with the Silhouette Cameo. I used kraft cardstock and covered it with gesso. I used the Gelatos on top together with the Tim Holtz Shatter stencil.

I removed the Gelatos color through the stencil using a wet baby wipe.

 
I added a little tag on which I stamped the "Danger Skeleton" and the "Row of Jack-O-Lanterns Silhouette". The edges are distressed with Distress Ink black soot. I used the Jack-O-Lanterns on the front of the bag, too.

I added the "Danger Skeleton" also to the vellum on the backside.

I stamped the "Frightful Fun and Folly", the "Halloween Tree Silhouette" and the "Row of Jack-O-Lanterns Silhouette" on the sides of the gift bag.

The Winning Costume Gets the PRIZE... and a CORN-u-Copia of Halloween Goodness!!!

Welcome to Viva Las Vegastamps! Susan here today to bring you some Halloween Treats and inky goodness. I set out to make a fun treat holder with handmade fringe, distress stained acetate, and a handmade acetate prize ribbon... with my Miracle Tape, assembly is quick and easy! Acetate is always fun to work with and it's the current challenge at Craft Stamper's Take It Make It Challenge.

Also - I've made my own crepe paper fringe with Miracle Tape! It's super easy and adds just the right amount of seasonal color and festive texture. First I layered an orange section of crepe paper {about 3 feet long}; then ran a stripe of 1/4" Miracle Tape down the center for the entire length. Then I repeated with black; then tape and repeated 4 more times alternating colors until I had six layers.

   

I added a stripe of Miracle Tape to the back of the first layer; then pressed everything flat to get good adhesion in the layers and folded the whole thing in half. The final stem is trimming small cuts at about 1/4" intervals to make the fringe.

I waited until after I adhered it to my piece to fluff it out.

Now for painting the acetate. I spread some Peeled Paint and Seedless Grape Ranger Distress Stains onto a craft sheet and rolled over with my brayer. This will make a nice drippy background.

I dragged the acetate through the puddles of distress stain, rolled a little with my brayer and repeated until I got the effect I desired. This particular acetate I'm using takes ink very well because it is recycled film from my imagesetter at work {please test inks on your inkjet or overhead projector acetate before trying with your final project}. I let it sit and dry for about a 1/2 an hour and while I waited, I mopped up the rest of this inky goodness with some blank tags and cardstock for use later. Before forming my cone, I stamped the creepy tree with Staz-On Black ink and accented the eerie eyes in the bat, pumpkin and stump with Sakura of America Souffle® 3-D Opaque yellow pen to make them glow.

  

I added strips of Miracle Tape to the length along the bottom edge and also along the short edge where the seam will meet. I formed it into a cylinder shape, exposed the tape and sealed my tube. This is a good time to secure with a couple staples for good measure.

Now a bit about the ribbon rosette... if you are going to attempt this in acetate - you need a hot glue gun and several hands {though I managed to do it with just two}. I reserved a section of stained acetate that was mainly purple and cut three strips using my Fiskars deckle edge scissors. I stamped the winner stamp on a scrap of green/purple stained cardstock and punched out with a tag punch. I gave it a shimmery touch with my Sakura of America Gelly Roll® Stardust® Glitter Pen. The Stardust is my most used of all pens - it's sheer and gives a twinkle to everything. 

Two of the strips I accented with ribbon for the tails. The third section I scored at 1/4" intervals on my Scor-Pal® and accordion folded. Now for the tricky part. Form the accordion into a loop and secure the ends together with Miracle Tape, then lay it flat and form it into a circle. I had another punched tag ready with Miracle Tape to secure the back, but it popped off as soon as I let go. So I put loads of hot glue in the center and sandwiched the top stamped tag on top to hold it tight. I put a glass on top to keep it flat until the glue completely cooled {about 10 minutes}. When cooled I added a small dab to hold the tails on and it's all complete.

I added the fringe and fluffed it pretty; punched holes and laced some coordinating ribbon and filled my cone with candy corn - topped off with some green and purple paper fringe that makes the Prize Ribbon "POP".

This prize is ready to be awarded... or I've earned my sweet reward - LOL!

Halloween Treat Boxes - Free Pattern!

I’m not a big fan of horror stories, scary films, haunted houses and the like. They make my heart pound and I scare pretty easily. Maybe that’s why I prefer the spooky but fun approach to Halloween.

When I saw the Eyes Inside Pumpkin stamp from Viva Las Vegastamps! it made me chuckle. The design comes in two sizes (#10871, #10880), so you can use it to create a suite of projects that complement one another. Combine it with Halloween Glitter Stripe paper from The Robin’s Nest and Purple Grandeur paper from Core’dinations and you’ve got all you need to make these three spooky Halloween treat boxes and tag.

One sheet of Halloween Glitter Stripe paper gives you enough strips to decorate about 9 boxes and a couple of tags. One sheet of Purple Grandeur will make all three boxes. I cut in to a second sheet to make the tag. Miracle Tape from Viva Las Vegastamps! makes it fast and easy to secure pieces when making the boxes.

Embellishments

To create the pumpkin embellishments, I stamped the Eyes Inside Pumpkin stamps on orange glitter paper from Colorbok’s Autumn Glittler pack with StazOn Jet Black ink and fussy cut them. I touched up the stamped lines with a black sharpie. To make the eyes really pop, I used a drop of Inkssentials White Enamel Accents by Ranger for each eye. After that cured, I touched the center with a black Pigma Micron Pen (0.3 mm) from Sakura. I applied green chunky glitter to the stems using Crystal Lacquer as an adhesive.

The two Happy Halloween sentiments are #7737 and #8709 from Viva Las Vegastamps! I stamped them on scalloped ovals and rectangles cut with deckle scissors.

Window Treat Box

Here’s a free pattern in PDF format to make the window treat box. I stamped the inside with Happy Halloween from Viva Las Vegastamps! This box makes a great container for candy, jewelry, a key, tickets, etc. I filled mine with Reeces Pieces because I love the colors they come in!

Triangle Favor Box

Triangle Treat Box Pattern

Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 6” x 4”. Score it down the center (3”) along the long side. Then score it from the center of the short side (2”) to the center of the long side as shown. Punch a 1/8” hole ½” down and ½” over from the each of the four corners. Fold along the score lines; fill it with candy or a small gift and threat ribbon through the punched holes to tie the box together. One mini candy bar fits just snug.

Triangular Tube Kiss Box

The kisses container is a breeze to make and could easily be mass produced. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 5½” x 4½”. Score it at 1”, ½” and 4” along the short side. The finished piece will be a triangular tube that is 5½” long. Fold at the score lines, adhere the ½” piece on the bottom and you’re done! Anchor the end kisses with a glue dot don’t so they don’t fall out when you pick it up. The tube holds 6 kisses.

Halloween Tag

If you’re giving someone something too big to fit in a favor box, just attach a Halloween tag to it! I started with Purple Grandeur paper cut to fit the tag and dry embossed it with the Pumpkin Harvest Cuttlebug embossing folder by Provo Craft. Adhere it to the tag and then lightly sand it to make the embossed design pop. Add your embellishments and your tag is ready to go!
