Tags for Christmas and trees!

 Liven up the holidays with this fun wooden tag, perfect for gifts, on trees and anywhere a little Christmas spirit needs to be added.  These are using some wooden stocking ornaments that I found at the Dollar Tree, but I have seen similar ones at various other crafting stores for under a dollar.

Supplies:

Waving Santa Item 4820

Black Pigment Ink

Black, Clear, white and silver Embossing Powders

Distress Oxide Squeezed Lemonade, Broken China & Blueprint Sketch

Silver colored Christmas Pick of holly leaves

A few foam snowflakes, one slightly larger than the other

Directions: 

I stamped directly on the wood using pigment black inks, then embossing them with black embossing powder. This allowed me to hand color the stamped images with some of my regular markers.

 

  Using my Distress Oxides in Squeezed Lemonade, Broken China and Blueprint Sketch with a blender brush, I applied the inks around the embossed, color stamped image. Once there was coverage and a mixture that I liked, I embossed over the background with a clear embossing powder for a shiny textured surface.

Using white pigment ink, I embossed the "white fur" on the top front section of the ornament. I found some decorate silver leaves at the 99 cent store, which I cut down a sprig and glued on the back of the ornament so the leaves were "coming out" of the top of the stocking.  After, I grabbed some foam snowflakes (I bought those from Michaels), layered those on the toe of the ornament, punch holes through them and through the toe, then slid a jeweled brad into the hole. Since I had a star brad and a previously die cut out "believe" in paper, I proceeded to use silver embossing powder and embossed those to get a shiny metallic surface.

 

 

 

After gluing down the "Believe" punching the hole for the star (to later add the star brad), I was pretty much done. Piece of red and white bakers twine and some black ink to darken the edge of the ornament completed it.

Hi Hermine here again and still in Christmas card mode hahaha. Below you will find two crds using exact the same materials and rubber stamps (except for the tekst stamp) but using two different techniques.

Technique 1:
step 1: take a piece of paper and scribble different colours Derwent Inktense Blocks on it horizontally. Take a waterbrush and blend the colours. Do the same with different colours vertically, repeat the blending and dry with a heattool.
step 2: take a round sponge and some gesso and put 3 circles on the background. Let dry. Put some colour on the circles with Derwent Inktense Blocks using reds and orange and blend with the waterbrush.
step 3: Stamp with Versamark the set of three Christmas ornaments 19309 at the top and embos with WOW Silver Hologram Sparkle Embossing Glitter and heatset.
step 4: take a Lyra watercolor crayon, I used sepia and mae some shades around and inside the ornaments.
step 5: Stamp with Stazon jet black the tekst Eat Drink end be merry 19316. Colour the edges with Colorbox chalk ink and matt on a double folded card.

 

Technique 2:

 

step 1: Stamp with Versamark the set of three Christmas ornaments 19309  on the cardstock and emboss with WOW Silver Hologram Sparkle Embossing Glitter and heatset.



step 2: scribble with Derwent Intense Blocks some colours at the top. Take a waterbrush and blend the colours, then squeeze your water brush to let the colours run down.
step 3: Take a waterbrush and a Lyra watercolour crayon sepia and make some shades at the top part of the ornaments.
step 4: stamp with Stazon jet Black the tekst Bring on the twinkle 19313 and matt this on a double folded card.

Sledding In a Winter Wonderland*

I fell in love with the new trees on plate 887,  the little sledders, and the scenic cabin!  Take different elements and put them together to create your vision.

Small Sponge or Tim Holtz Distress Ink Applicator

Trace ornament on cream cardstock.  Set ornament aside.

Tap light Pearlescent Brilliance (pad on right) and use sponge to work into top part of tracing, going over the trace marks lightly.  Then use the darker blue to shade the edges at the top.  Do the same with the white pigment ink in the middle-center and on the bottom.  Shade the bottom edges with the lighter blue.

 

  Stamp your images and then use a blue and pearlized white or interference color of mica powder to add texture and shimmer.  NOTE:  The small trees is stamped on the left and right sides to add more trees.

 

Cut image out.  Note:  I added the birds (bats) and sled image afterwards because I didn't know what I wanted to add - but best rule is to do it first .  Start using the pastel pencils and start shading.  I usually use 2 to 3 colors of the same shade, mid-tone, highlight, and shadow.  Don't forget to add smoke in the chimney so it looks more realistic.

 

Paint the edges of the ornament gold.  Use the Miracle Tape and adhere image to top of ornament as well as run it along the outside of the ornament.Press trim in place.

I did add the birds and the sledding children after the fact, if you aren't sure of the images you want to use; plan the focal point, then add the other images.  Add a little more mica powder as needed.  The photo's do not show the shimmer and texture of the snow - it is a wonderful touch for sparkly tree lights!

Hang the finished ornament proudly on your tree.  Make a few and give as gifts.  Start a tradition by sending a loved one or dear friend an ornament every year.
