FLY

Hi Groupies!!!
Michele here today sharing an ATC wall hanging inspired by my teammate Fiona Paltridge.  She is participating, with a bunch of super creative artists, over at Soul Journey 2018.  (You can find out more here.)  I just loved her project and this is what I created after watching her videos.

I used the Pair of Butterfly Wings with Tim Holtz Paper Dolls as the focal point.

I had done some resist stamping on a piece of watercolor paper some time ago and used a torn bit for one of the layers of the background.

I used the Writing Circles Background and Numbers Set with Distress Spray.

The wings are colored with Faber Castell Aquarelle pencils.

Sari ribbon and a some rusty pieces of metal are used to create the little hanging on the bottom of the ATC and the handle at the top.

A few more bits and bobs and a little stitching with my sewing machine finish my little hanging off.

I am so happy with how it turned out!!!  Thanks Fiona for some awesome inspiration!!!

Until next time...get inky!!

EGGstra Special Easter Wishes...

Welcome to Viva Las Vegastamps! Susan here today to bring some seasonal crafting inspiration... and a Bunny who's all dressed up for the Easter Parade!

This project is a little altered home decor project using a leftover scrap of Ranger Distress Stain painted cardstock and a plaster egg decor piece... and my stash of VLVS! {of course}, with one "Fancy Bunny #17610" to star in this crafty redux. This egg base is partially decorated on the front and is glittered, which will make a great finish for the backside – so I will alter the backside which is flat and plain just screaming for some inky stamped goodness.

First thing, trace shape onto my painted scrap of cardstock, stamp bunny with Versafine ink, and make a quick mask.

I traced shape onto a section of Miracle Sheet, trimmed and adhered my stamped background with mask applied to the backside of the egg. Using purple and green dye inks, I stamped in some grass and pattern to the egg background... and my bunny is perfectly safe!

Now the magic is revealed!! A few minutes of fussy cutting is always worth it for layering stamps and seamless image. I had planned to use "Fancy Border" #18951 for grass, but it wasn't working... so I smooshed the edge of ink pad to paper making chunky grass.

Now for the finishing touches... lots of hand coloring and doodling using a variety of pens and a waterbrush. I tied off some creme organza ribbon for a hanger at the top with a bow – and from the bottom, hung a ribbon tail with a triple matted sentiment block combining words from two different stamps. This stamped lovely is ready to hang and is super sparkly!

A Fresh Face for the New Year...

Welcome to Viva Las VegaStamps! Susan here today and I'm so excited to rejoin my inky-stampy friends here at VLVS! It's been ages since my rubber stamps have seen the light of day so I decided to make a fun ATC using the Collage Face #18378 which reminds me of my fabulous winter hat.

I started out with some scraps of cardstock, an embossed painted paper and a mini tag and I stamped my images onto them using black archival ink. I doodled in some longer curly locks using a black PITT pen. I gave a quick color washing with Faber-Castell PITT brush pens applied with a water brush. I like the color, but my face needed a little more POP.

I broke out my Faber-Castell Gelatos and added some more color.

I played and smudged on the Gelatos onto my face and painted book page ATC base. I blended out the details with my waterbrush.

I assembled the layers using Miracle Tape then spritzed with a dash of Tsukineko New Sprout Fireworks for some shimmery splatters. I finished off with stamping the word "dream" and spelled out "play" using the alphabet from the December Daily Plate #1430 by brushing my black PITT pen onto stamps – resulting in a lighter more subtle impression on top of the Gelato smudged background.

A Fresh Face for the New Year!

Pirate Otto.

Hello!!  It's Mary here, bringing you a clean and simple (CAS) card.

I decided to color up this sweet Pirate Otto image---because I love him!!  C'mon, how sweet is he??!

I simply stamped him onto Neenah Solar White cardstock with Memento ink in Tuxedo Black and then colored him up with a variety of Copic markers.

A bit of Rock Candy Stickles and some doodling with a Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen...

...along with this awesome Dream Big sentiment and I have myself a sweet and simple card, ready for givin'.

Ok, that's it for me :-)  I hope you have a most FABULOUS day!!

xx Mary

My Last Post in Abstract#VLVS #VivaLasVegaStamps #VLVS

Sandra here, with my last post as a member of the VLVS! Design Team.
I decided it would be fitting to use a couple of the VLVS! stamps that are based off my artwork.

StazOn Jet Black Inkpad
Faber-Castell Gelatoes-Deep Red, Red, Dark Terracotta, Yellow Ochre, Pale Orange, Bright
Faber-Castell Stampers Big Brush Pen - Dark Sepia 175, Cold Grey 1 230, Ivory 103
Orange, Lemon Yellow, Cream
Stillman & Birn Zeta sketchbook
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Stick
Folk Art Metallic Peridot Fluid Acrylic Paint
Golden Iridescent Gold Fine Acrylic Paint
Transparent Gesso

Lately, I've been playing around with creation from destruction, taking artwork or practice work, destroying it by covering most of it up, and then creating something new.  My finished piece started out like this.  A practice chart I made in a sketchbook using Gelato water-soluble sticks, to see how the colors graduated.

To start the transformation, I used Stampers Big Brush pens to blend the stripes and add some grunge.  Stampers Big Brush pens are India Ink, not blenders, but the Ivory color is very light and the pens are wet enough to activate the water-soluble qualities of the gelatos, just enough for blending.

The third step was to stamp the images.  The joy of Zentangle-inspired stamps is that you can add a touch of Zentangle without drawing the tangles and then covering most of them up.  For that same reason, I didn't worry about getting a perfectly stamped image.  Zeta paper is good for stamping, but the curve of the book can get in the way.  No problem, in this case.

Recently, I've been playing around with glue guns, using the glue to create texture in a method I learned from Contadina K.  I melted glue sticks, covering most of the page with see-through strands.  I let it sit for about 1/2 hour and then coated it with a layer of transparent gesso.  I didn't completely cover the glue strands, so that any paint I added would have a slightly different appearance in some places.

After the gesso was dry (I let it sit for a day so both it and the glue would be fully cured), I used the same gelato colors as were used in the original stripes and rubbed the colors in at random, using my finger.  Then acrylic paints were added, the gold iridescent worked into some areas between the glue, and the metallic peridot was painted on top of the glue streaks.

It's difficult to show in a photo or scan, but the iridescent gold adds a sheen that changes in the light.  If you hold the page a certain way, the stamped zentangle images almost disappear.  If you tilt the book, you can see them almost completely.  Hints of the original striped colors show as well.

So long all! I hope you've enjoyed my last project for VLVS! I'll miss being part of the design team fun, but I hope I'll see most of you around on my blog, or Facebook, or Twitter.
